I have a Honda Varadero 125 however all of a sudden i am getting a slapping sound coming from the bike.

A constant sound that coincides with the gears/chain.

I have had a look and am guessing the issue is with the chain slapping against the swing arm.

There is little room for movement between the chain and the swing arm, I have taken a picture from the web to show what part I am on about but not of my bike.

Any suggestions have i not adjusted something or is there more to it than this?

Do you regularly lube the chain? Is it set to the correct tension? Is the rear wheel in alignment?

+1 for checking you have adjusted the chain properly. Sounds like its too slack and is bouncing up and down. Get the rear off the ground and whilst turning the wheel by hand check how much movement the chain has moving up and down underneath the swing arm it should be around an inch or so of play, some parts of the chain may be more as it generally tends to stretch at different places.

Yep, you need to adjust the chain at it's TIGHTEST spot. I'd also whip the front sprocket cover (the grey plastic cover your arrow is pointing to) and check the front sprocket for damage (hooked teeth, snapped or missing teeth etc).

How many miles has the chain done? They get loose in certain places eventually and it's very hard to keep them tight properly and it's then you need a new one.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?
