so i noticed something strange on my fazer today when i went to adjust the rear brake light switch. ( you had to practically lock the back wheel up before the brake light was activated.).

i then checked the front one out of interest, to make sure it was working, and sure enough it wasnt. ie, when i press the front brake lever the rear brake light dont come on.

anyway, i have checked all the fuses, the brake light switch and the circuit to the bulbs. all is working as it should when the two circuits are disconnected, but as soon as you connect them together they do not work. okay, so now your thinking its a short, but its not, because by applying 12v (effectively bypassing the brake leaver) the brake lights come on no problem.

So again, this is what i have checked. fuses are all fine.

the brake light switch. works fine.

the brake lights from the electrical box of goodies. this rules out a dogey connection/wire between the front an rear of the bike.

now i havent got round to checking it with the engine on, but this should make no difference what so ever!

Im sorry if my description of the whole thing is rather rubbish. but i hope you get the gist of what im trying to say here.

any help would be much appreciated Smile.

thanks

That's an odd one, can you remove the wires from either of the switches (spade connectors?) to test the circuit without the actual switch connecting it?

take your bake light brake switch apart. clean it, then put it back together. if water gets into the mechanism then this usually shorts it and causes a problem like this

okay thanks for the replies. testing it without the switch is a great idea! didnt think of that. and if it works with the switch off i know there is water in the switch and i cant rebuild it.

would make sense seeing as its only when the circuit is under a load.

will do that tonight.

!!thanks for the replies.
