FZR 600R trouble

I just bought a 1998 FZR 600R this past week from a friend at work,the bike runs great and everything seems to run smooth,ive changed the plugs and oil so far but i just ran into a problem. when he sold me the bike he said the battery wasnt any good,hed charge it all day at work so he could drive it home,so b4 i bought it i went out and bought a battery,went to walmart and got a 30$ one,i measured the battery and it fits fine. the battery finder "the thing at walmart that helps u find your batt" said the FZR 600R battery is N/A so i just baught the 30$ one instead,at least until my legit one is shipped. the problem is the bike will crank fine but sometimes "not all the time" the bike just randomly dies...like the battery just quits life. i try to crank it and it just buzzes...like the batt is dead. ok so first thing i think is aww crap the stator....so i get a volt meter and test it,first i charge the batt again till my bike cranks....at idle the meter says i have 12.000-13.000 volts steady when i rev the engine it hits closer to 14.000. so i let the bike sit and everything seems fine with the stator its charging the battery fine it seems. ive checked loose wires and such and nothing...it did it again tonight on my way home. i cant even roll start it..i dunno whats wrong????

Wrong section blood, but that sounds like when my starter was knackered.
