I had a similar situation once, nailed it down the motorway at 120 for a bit, pulled off to go to a shopping centre, missed my turning and had to do a lap round the ring road. I saw police bikes and cars trying to hide behind bridge supports and things all looking at me as i went past. I saw a police car in front put its lights on, but i had reached my turning and left the road. On stopping i was boxed in by 2 police cars! They claimed that the bike was reported stolen and asked if they could look around the bike, which was hard to say no to Turns out an automated numberplate reader had picked up the 6 in my numberplate as an 8 due to the positioning of a dirty screw. Needless to say they buggered off pretty quick on realising the mistake and i bought a new plate and drilled the hole somewhere different
