i have an rs 125 2001 model. Chain snapped on me got the bike home, started it few days later to try keeping charge in the battery, worked ok,
few days later went to start again put choke on, started it up i got a lil power on the throttle then it cut off, since them it has never started again,
Firts i thought i had flooded it, tuck plug out fired it over, no fuel came shootin out, tried again, still no joy
Replaced the plug still no joy, checked the spark thats good, still no joy, im now going to clean the carb and air filter.
Does any1 have any advise for me??
some1 told me when a chain snaps it can knock the engine out of timing!! is this true?? could this be y it wont start
HELP PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

RS125 is a two stroke. Timing is entirely controlled by the holes in the cylinder walls, so NO a snapped drive chain WONT knock the timing out!
On a four-stroke, where the valves are opened & shut by a can-shaft if the TIMING CHAIN between the crank & cam, snaps then that of course will effect the timing, but not on your bike.
More likely I suspexct you have flattened the battery!
fire a bike up on the starter and you will drain an awful lot of juice from it turning the high ampage starter motor.
Let it sit idling for a few minutes and the very low rated generator will NOT fully re-charge the battery..... it WONT even replace the charge used to start it!
At tick-over the generator probably makes harly more electricity than it needs to work the ignition, its not until the motor is turning a few more rpm that it starts to make any excess, and even THEN it wont be making much.
So, take the plug out the hole, low battery has enough beef to make a spari in free air, you see sparks... and without the motor under compression, starter wont have much load on it so will turn over quite easy.
Pop the plug back in the hole, not enough joiuce between starter AND coil to turn motor AND make sparks.... result... wont start.
Try charging the battery properly on a trickle charge, and IF you want to keep the battery charged while bike out of commission use a charger.
IF you want to keep the motor turned over to keep it all lubricated, so that too, but DONT expect it to charge the battery. |

hi,
i have owned a few rs125's & ALL of them were difficult to start.
this is usualy because the battery isnt FULLY charged.
it has to be fully charged to start the bike.
ignoring what it says on the LCD voltage screen, if its less than 12v, it wont start, even if it says 12v on the lcd, so use a multi-meter to test the voltage.
if you have a charger, charge the battery up overnight, then start again.
first test for a spark (assuming the battery is fully charged) by holding the spark plug against the frame, your looking for a fat blue spark.
then put the spark plug back in.
pull the choke down & press the starter, resisting the urge to open the throttle.
if its the original battery it might be time to think about getting a new one.
if it doesnt start, take the spark plug back out & see if its wet.
if its dry, check there is fuel in the tank & also getting to the carb.
if you have fuel in the carb but the plug is dry, test compression.
might also be worth trying to bump start it, though they can be difficult to bump, so this usually involves a steep hill or 2 people.
when you do get it started (& you will if your getting a spark, have fuel & have good compression) it would be wise to check its charging properly, on the bike.
make sure the voltage increases to around 15v at 5000rpm,
cheers,
