Ok, trying to sort the SRAD out - or at least get it started. Problem is that the key won't turn to the 'ON' position - it goes from LOCK to OFF, but no further.

The battery is totally flat mind - that wouldn't have an effect would it?

The bike was nicked, and the steering lock broken, as well as the actual lock mounting in the top yoke on one side. Not sure that would cause the problem tho?

Any ideas?

Probably mashed up the tumblers inside (ok they aren't tumblers but you know what bits I mean).

Can you not just prize the switch off the back of the lockset like you can on many bikes?

This. ( I think you mean the pins?)

Or whack one of these into the lock.

To get it started, surely just hot wire it.

On my 675 the ignition barrel was effectively two parts - the upper part was the key bit, which then had an oblong prong which stuck down into a circular selection switch. It was pretty easy to separate the two.

What G said. I like to think of it as a 'racer's trick' rather than a sign of a mis-spent youth Very Happy

Sadly this was the first thing I had to do to my brand new 675 fresh from the factory and run in on a dyno - not even ridden it and I was attacking it with a hammer (had to mash up the filler cap too, then used a spanner bolted across it to hold it down the rest of the weekend.)

Did they not give you keys G?

(Even if that is the first thing most people do to race bikes)

Embarassed - someone may have manged to leave the keys for my bike in England Doh! - what you get for not having slept and leaving for an early flight at 3am.

I felt a little better because the event organiser managed to forget the keys for his massive tool boxes too Smile.

And you were in Cartegana I presume? Laughing

I left the keys in my old Hornet track bike the whole way back from Cornwall, fortunately they were still there when I got home. From then on keyless all the way. Much less hassle.
