From Newcastle to Edinburgh tomorrow and it looks like rain. I have made a route that avoids speed cameras. Up the a696 then the a7. It is a bit longer but leaves the hassle of cameras behind and lets me find how good the a7 is since it looks pretty twisty on the map.

Only problem is heavy rain, I have water proof textiles and a clear visor.

Does rain x work on visors and is it safe?

Was thinking about taking my cheaper helmet, would the rain damage my shoei if it was exposed for a long time, like would it get into the lining?

Any advice on riding in the rain for 2-3 hours, only rode in the rain for 20 mins or so when caught out?

I could take the a68 or the a1 but there are 19 speed cameras that way. What is it with Scotland and speed cameras!?

Cheers

I would have thought your helmet would be okay mate.

Take it easy and just remember your stopping distances change etc.

Just grin and bear it really, you'll be ok! Thumbs Up

its only the borders that really gets it with the cameras,
they are trying to punish all you english that nip across the borders in search of twisties Very Happy

the a7 is pretty good, a bit greasy when wet, watch out for police bikes outside galasheils, and the little vallages between there and gorebridge

Lolwut? Open your vents and visor, and it'll get into the lining. Keep them closed, it won't. Worst comes to the worst, it gets wet and you have to dry it out.

Er. Man up? That should cover it. That and get some actual waterproofs to go over your textiles- cheap industrial ones will do the job. Also, don't tuck the outer layer into your boot otherwise you'll have a boot full of water.

You realise they're bright yellow and sign-posted? If you're expecting heavy rain, how fast do you expect to be going that you can't drop to 70 in time?

See you managed to give useful advice that I hadn't thought of. Maybe next time you could do it in the guise of a less patronising post? Neutral

Rain damage a helmet Laughing Ye jest of course sir.....

Even if the lining did get wet it would soon dry out.

As to the visor, give it a blast with some wax based polish, that helps the water bead up and will run off the visor. Might just need to twist head a bit from side to side to get best wind flow to remove it all.

Just ride with a bit more care, give yourself more room to stop etc. Other than that its just the same as in the dry.

Might want to take some dry cloths with you, if your waterproofs are not too good.

I didn't really mean damage the helmet just soak the inside, I didn't want the inside wet and then the have to wear it on the way back still wet and then it might start the smell or something since my lining isn't removable.

Oh well, onwards tomorrow then.
