iphone 3g problem

Am hopin someone can help. Other half got given an iphone. We cant download apps. We get on the internet ok. Even with it sync with the pc it just wont work. Walked into apple store n they basically couldnt help lol. Any idea?

Do you have a valid iTunes store account? Go into Settings > General > Store > View Account and see if you can sign in ok there.

Yes she dose.. because the phone has been unlocked, the guy said we cant upgrade to the lastest software. As it will re.lock the phone?? And once that happens he said she wont be able to unlock it again. We might try resettin it. But all data will be lost

Might as well jailbreak it and load your apps that way through itunes. Or is the PC just not recognising it at all?

Have you tried the basics?

I would say try restoring through itunes to factory settings, then
jailbreak.

Edit, also which version is it on - try to avoid upgrading to 3.1.3.

Another option may be to jailbreak and put ios4 on via gm.
