 |
|
It originally came in for tyres fitting.
As it rolled into the forecourt, My manager and supervisor (Who drive a brand new Focus ST, and a MINT Mk2 Golf GTI) both said something along the lines of "Nice car mate, bet your well proud of that".
The owner got out and walked into reception to ask about tyres.
In the end he brought his own tyres with him, and We fitted all 4 onto the car.
I got in the car, First thing I noticed was the heavier than usual Clutch pedal, It had bucket seats and a Momo Steering wheel. I wondered why a 1.1 Clio would have these sorts of mods.
When I glanced at the clocks, It had a 150mph Speedo. Rather than the 120 speedo the 1.1 has.
I got it on the ramp, Removed the wheels to reveal Disk brakes all round.
This is where it got interesting. Curiosity killed it, I had to pop the bonnet for a look.
This is the car my Manager took the piss out of as it rolled in.

And this is what was shoe horned into the front.

When the customer came back we got talking, Mainly because I had started a similar conversion last year. I was putting a 1.8 K series 16v VHPD engine into an old Mini.
The owner seemed alright and said the "chav style mods" were all just to ad to the commercial value. He has an Evo 8 at home. The Clio is purely a wind up toy.
He then tried to sell me it for £1500.
Respect to him though, He said he goes out picking fights with scoobys, Evos etc.
I bet he has a laugh, Especially as there arent really any give aways from the outside. it looks like a badly modified Chav mobile.
He reckons it will touch 150mph, And will see 60mph in around 5.5 seconds. |

Many a year ago, when the XR2 was as common as muck a lad not much older than me had a 'standard' one from the outside but had a 2litre Cossie engine up front.
I believe the term shit off a shovel is the best explanation to the performance. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Heard of a few fiestas with cossie lumps,
Mini - i know like 10 people who all have done minis, matey down the road has a 2.0 honda lump in his down the road, i might go get osme snaps as its on his drive.
Metro, my mate was on about this, as hes just bought a little metro and either he was going to think of dropping a 1.6 vtec lump or possibly turbo'ing the metro lump as apparently its not that hard i hear. |
Depends on the year of the Metro. If it is the Old Austin metro, Then the "mini" style conversions apply.
Either Turbo the A Series engine, And get about 150 (VERY UNRELIABLE) horse Power out of it.
OR Chuck the subframe in there to house the Vtec/b12/VHPD lump in.
If it is the K series Metro, Then its almost as easy as unbolting the Current engine, And dropping in the 1.8 equivalently. Which is the Rover 218 (VVC) Lump. |

Other matey whos selling his rs125 to me or should be if he passes on friday, has a mini with a 1.6 lump in it, and had all the cams done etc, apparently pushing out around 100bhp at wheels, which power to weight is quite good for a mini i spose. although justins down the road like i said is pushing out 168bhp at the wheels
I want a car to fuck about in, but a bike for the summer damn practicality. I have a 2.0 turbo pulsar lump in my garage, which i can have for fuck all, just need to find a car that will take that kind of weight in the front, and will drop in relitivly easy. Ive heard of one of the pulsar lumps put in a mini too, apparently couldnt get traction in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and by the time it was in 5th ud already been beaten by novas. unless you feel like stealing the diff and prop and cuttin em down and trusting welds, unless there already 4 wheel drive diffs made for mini's. ____________________ Past: '05 Peugeot XPS '99 Aprillia RS125 '94 FZR600R

I sold my old MX5 wheels to a guy who'd put a 3.5 litre V8 in his little Eunos (1.6 litre originally).
You couldn't tell from the outside, apart from the sound.
I want one. |

What you want is one of these. Someone from the owner's club had a 1.8vvc one, and saw 135mph on the clock before she chickened out IIRC. ____________________ Chris

Hatches can never be sleepers, unless they look like a bog standard 1984 Escort L with steel wheels.
A true sleeper would be car with an old man reputation, RWD and a huge motor.
Something like this, except with more turbos:

clicky 2
{edit} they do a supercharger kit that takes this car up to 380bhp! {edit} ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I reckon the Clio would look a lot cooler without the chav stickers etc.
I really like nicely done sleepers, there was a nice brown mk3 escort with a rover v8 posted on another forum a while back, can't find the link to it now.
There is also this old Royal Mail van that I reckon looks pretty cool.
