ok here's how it goes. i had the engine out and a rebuilt it. put it back together and fine. then after a few stop and starts the starter stopped working and i just get a ticking/buzzing noise. i thort the battery was duff so i bought a new one and it still didnt work. i put some jump leads off my car battery on to the battery and it works fine! soon as i take them off no go. What's the problem, could it be another duff battery?? all the lights work perfect withoutt he engine workin too.

Also i keep blowin the 2 tail lights and one of the rear brake lights, any idea what that could be??

Thanks,
Craig.

Hi

Sounds like a dodgy regulator / rectifier unit. Get the engine running and then put a voltmeter over the battery. Should be around 13V when idling rising to 14.5~15V when revved. If it goes higher than that then it will overcharge the battery (and wreck it, also possibly blowing bulbs, etc). If it is not going up when you rev the engine then it is not charging.

All the best

Keith

sorted it! dad found that the wire that goes to the starter motor was melted and arkin onto the exhaust. as for the bulbs, we just replaced them!

Thanks
