thats right, before the mighty vfr750's and vfr800's
there was what honda deemed its most advanced road bike to that date
(being 1984 Very Happy) and well above any other bike around at the time
the mighty v4 honda vf1000, grand daddy to all honda v4's
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/vf1000/DSCF2946Medium.jpg
now these wern't with out their problems, the very first ones were plagued with soft cams and terrible wear to the top ends, where engines were basically stuffed in 25000km (15000miles) fortunatly by the time the bikes made it all the way around the world to nz and australia
these problems were pretty much sorted out,
a friend of mine also has a vf1000 which now has 250000km on he clock with no rebuild or knocks or rattles.
mine is now sitting on 89000km and starts on the button, and purrs like a wee tiger,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATCUhU675h0
and for properitys sake some more pics
https://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/vf1000/DSCF2947Medium.jpg

i kinda hope you like, but will happily stab you in the face if you disagree with me Very Happy

i used to have the vf400 as well, with the terrible inboard discs and that ugly tail
https://p1.bikepics.com/pics/2006%5C01%5C12%5Cbikepics-500384-full.jpg

it was bloody fast, my mate had a late model zxr400 and the vf used to piss all over it, much to his disgust Very Happy

Looks great. Thumbs Up

Glad there are some of these still about and running strong.

Have been tempted by the VF1000R a couple of times, but they demand quite a premium if in tidy condition.

you can pick them up over here quite cheaply,
the soft cam reputation has kept the price down Very Happy
not that it affected us, but with the internet, you know how it is,
so for your money over here, its probably one of the best bang for your buck bikes on the market, there is a r for sale at the moment for 5k
(2000 quid) 36000km on the clock
https://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/15/120244315_full.jpg
for that money, the best you could hope for here is a il4 250cc or a bandit6 that has 150000km on the clock, may be an old oil boiler, or a bike thats been crashed,

In Australia a red / black VF400 (or even a 350?) used to park next to me, horrid looking thing with a large drum brake on the front wheel.

However, when we came home and I was after a cheap as chips bike an 1984 Interceptor in red and cream stood out a mile, missed out by a few quid and then found the TRX, still looked good after all these years though.

the trx is nice though, and so much simpler,
v4's are all good, but are a bastard to work on,

I spent 5 months in NZ last Summer and bought a VTR over there to travel. Can't say I came across any VF1000Rs in my time, but that looks like a peach at the price. The R was the first model to utilise gear driven cams too (before they stuck them on the 750 to save their rep), so engine woes shouldn't be a concern with thise either.

Looks really good! Thumbs Up Only problem I'd have owning a bike like that is I'd be too tempted to stick modern suspension (USDs) & modern wheels (190 section rear tyre) on it. Shifty

That's actually not that bad! But don't like the profile of those tyres so I agree with BenR. Thumbs Up

And I'd also take the bikini fairing off and run it naked Cool

I HATE bikini fairings.

Nice bike though Thumbs Up

would love to, as bikini fairings are my enemy, but it has another radiator behind the headlight,
thats been the only thing thats stopped me,
i have been tempted to change the rear wheel, and its pretty tricky to do change the front end, the forks are about 100mm longer than most usds, don't think i havn't looked into every mod,
its just not practical to do them Sad

Bad times.

Radiator behind the light? Neutral Random.

Does it look that ugly if you take the fairing off?
