I cant believe some people......... Shocked

respect to the biker who was killed this morning.
knottingley lane was closed off this morning and only just found out why...
After hearing the sad news today about the motorcyclist who lost his life travelling to work I can only feel nothing but pure hatred to the scum that is those in the Jet petrol station on Pontefract road who CHARGED for a blanket to cover the poor bloke, out of respect to that guys soul.
Tell all your family an friends to boycott the Jet garage and lets put the disrespectful twats out of business!! RIP COLIN MILTON!

I thought they might have some common sense

You have to question whether they knew what it was for?

It seems silly to jump to conclusions. Even then, a blanket isn't bringing anyone back so it doesn't really matter. It doesn't sound like they needed it urgently to stop serious bleeding or something?

^^ Agreed, I'm sure if you burst in to a petrol station and said, "Have you got a blanket, someone has been seriously injured in a road traffic accident" they wouldn't charge you for it.

Then again, the way society is these days, I'm wondering whether they did.

I rather suspect if the employee gave it away, it would be considered theft by the employee as far as standard company procedure goes.
So the employee would have to pay for it without going through a good bit of hassle.

If you're going to make the employee pay for it, why not the person wanting it pay for it?

If they considered it theft then the employee would be lucky to get away just paying for it. I know that in places I have worked then you'd get the sack.

That is, if in this situation they did consider it to be theft.

Actually, I would go as far as to say it could do us some good if people didn't cover up and hide death with blankets etc. Maybe people would get a realistic sense of their own mortality on the road.

Hmm, seems like a bit of a knobbish thing to do.

Years ago.. when I was about 19, a friend who had diabetes had a bad turn, I just ran into a shop, stole a lucozade saying my friend had just collapsed, they chased me to my friend laying on the floor while I aided her.

They said they thought I was just robbing their shop, but as it was for a good cause they let it slide Laughing

Still, I won't boycott Jet, I don't have one locally Laughing

Do you have any common sense? The world doesn't stop for me because some nameless faceless person who also happens to ride a bike has died. I also drive a car, and drink beer. people die from those things all the time, should I be horrified about it?

I wouldn't expect to get something for free. If it was a plastic cup of tap water sure. Not an overpriced blanket from a min wage employee who will probably lose a days wages from it at best.

I'm sure you could have skipped any queue and explained to anyone that your friend was having a hypo. No-one would have minded.
You don't die of hypo in 'a minute or two'.

I would have torn the bottle from your friend's grasp when I caught up with you.

Razz

If you offer equipment for first aid you can claim from the injured party's insurance company if you want.
It would be considered.

I do think in general we are bit too 'protected' from Death in the UK too.

Well, if it's on Facebook then I'd better fetch my torch and pitchfork. Anyone know where I can set fire to one of those filthy child molesting podiatrists on the way?

I appreciate the sentiment but my local Jet is the only place open after 10pm that has a working PayPoint, so how can I boycott the place when they neither know why, or could have prevented the incident?

I'm not going without because some biker is dead, it wont help either of us. Karma

I'm very familiar with that area and I've never heard of Knottingley Lane. A quick search confirmed that no such lane exists. Whilst attempting to check the accuracy of the rest of the story, I came across this in The Pontefract And Castleford Express:-

''So sad to hear about another death on our road my heart goes out to his family, and It sounds like people are jumping on the band wagon about the petrol station a friend has posted this staement on facebook where the rumours are going around "The jet garage have confirmed that nobody came in and asked for a blanket for poor Colin yesterday and records show it was the jet garage that phoned the emergency services at the time of accident, a work colleague who was there with Colin helping the ambulance paramedics has just informed us that the rumours going round are not true." . The people that have started the rumour need to take a long look at themselves.''

Upon reading this, quite frankly, upsetting story before the watershed I took it upon myself to phone the head of Jet in the USA.

As they are 5 hours behind us he wasn't that suprised to hear from thr UK, but he was suprised that I was the first to call and give him details as they were reported on facebook. His reply? "As it is on Facebook, it must be true and I will act on it straight away"

After talking for about 2 hours, throwing ideas between us, like every service station to carry a blanket for just such an occasion to keeping a turkey size roll of bacofoil to make a emergency reflective marathon blanket, we came to a final decision.

As from wednesday a memo will be sent to all Jet stations worldwide, in alphabetical order staing that ALL Jet filling stations will have to carry £10 (or local equivalent) for emergencies, so staff can buy a blanket, Lucozade or hot cup of sweet tea, maybe even some Werthers for the old people so this can never, ever happen again!

You didn't see the post two up it looks like someone made the story up?

There was an accident about two years back where a bike smashed into a tractor driving perfectly correctly and all in order, now there's some facebook group campaigning to have all tractors banned from roads because they are too slow for modern traffic.

It would make more sense to ban bikes as they are too fast for modern traffic.
Or ban all traffic except tractors from rural roads perhaps.

In other words facebook is nuts and should not be taken seriously.
People over-react in unbalanced ways when closely involved with a tragedy.
People exaggerate and stories get repeated and passed on as true - as this one shows.
