Carrying a helmet

Ok another question where I'm risking you lot calling me a fuc*ing idiot but here goes ...

I want to give someone a lift on my bike, drop them off and bring their helmet back. Is it acceptable/legal/safe to carry the helmet by having my left arm through the neck and out through the visor hole, so that the helmet sits up on my elbow.

Dunno about the legality, but I used to do that every day for about 6 months when I used to take the Mrs. to and from work.

Not the best idea though, if you come off your arm is more than likely to get obliterated.

I've never had any of the above so just loop it through my arm.
