tyre advice

Evening all, just sorting the wifes SV out ready for its MOT and it needs a new rear tyre. When she first got the bike it had a pair of qualifiers on it, when the front needed changing a year ago, putting another qualifier on the front seemed the best option. A year later the bike has done about 30 miles, due to it being laid up. The rear now looks shot and will need to be replaced before I can MOT it. Can I put a differant rear tyre on the bike? Only reason it needs doing is becauase its squared really bad, the wife will be using the bike for doing about 70 miles a week to work plus the odd weekend blast.

What are my options, tyre wise?
I don't really want to be changing a the tyre again in a few months because its past the limit in the centre but looks like its not been used on the sides.

Sports touring tyre.

Pilot 2CT or one of the many others of the same ilk. Thumbs Up

Bridgestone BT021 rear for me ... although I hear good things about those Pilots too Thumbs Up

[edit] for the record, I still have the previous owners Avon Azaro tyre on the front with no problems

I have 2CT's on mine, pretty cool. But I think even if someone were to change them I wouldn't know the difference Laughing

I don't understand how people feel the difference between tyres through normal riding

... can't remember the last time I had a 'matched pair' on my road SV!! Confused

Its true to say that 'matched' tyres do work better together, but unless you are trying for the local lap record it isn't really a necessity ...

Stick with a main brand tyre (as long as it isn't Michelin) and it'll all be fine!! Thumbs Up

You could try a Roadsmart, should work fine with the Qualifier and have had good reviews. Thumbs Up

I've been looking at what tyres would work on my SV. Currently have a Pilot Road 2 on the front and a free Brigdestone on the rear.
I can feel that their mismatched (a vaguely sideways movement on the rear, although that could be the soft Bridgestone sliding). Its never really been that much of an issue.

I've been looking at Avon Storm 2 Ultra's (more sport/touring) or VP 2's (more sports). Heard good things about the Storms from other SV riders.

The Roadsmart is another option I've looked at, but price will be one of the biggest factors for me.

I have the same issue of the rear squaring off so I'm thinking of getting a multi-compound tyre and hopefully this will make it last longer.

Well I stuck a BT-20 on the back in the end Same as whats on my GSXR, seems to do the job and was only £45 fitted.

The SV passed its MOT on Saturday, it no longer wheeps oil from the cam cover and no longer sounds like an old type writer, due to me sorting out the CTC. Got and advisery for splits pins in the rear caliper and loud exhaust( stuck a titaniam leo vince on that I got for £40)

Wifes bike is sorted for another year

I put a pair of conti force on my fzs600 in december....the back one only lasted until last week, so won't be getting them again Evil or Very Mad

didn't want to buy a pair again so i've got a maxxis supermaxx on the rear now, and the conti on the front, done 120 miles on the maxxis and all seems fine.

I found the conti road attacks were good value for money.

But i have always stuck with the battleaxe bt 021, just got mine changed and got 19,000 miles from the last set
