I cannot wait to experience that.

I'm going to test ride a dozen of bikes before I jump on the one I really want Wink

Imagine being in 4th gear as the speedo is going up as fast as the rev counter and youre doing something like 140 with no drama at all!

Miss it a bit to be honest!

My first ride of a big bike was an XJR1300. It involved me redlining it in 1st gear. It felt pretty rapid but not really insane.

Funnily enough I only realised how torquey the XJR1300 was after I had owned the zzr600 for a while. I guess when I had the CG125 I expected all big bikes to have that torque. Tbh the brakes and weight scared me more and I kept locking up the rear wheel by accident because it was so sensitive compared to the CG's rear drum and 6 inches of pedal travel.

Big bikes don't feel so powerful once you get up the gears so just short shift to try and get used to it first.

I know the feeling. I think a bit more than a year in from riding around on my Honda CG I jumped on a friends' big bike and gave it some.

Looking down and seeing 80 or 90mph for the first time is incredibly scary. On a small bike 65MPH takes absolutely forever to reach and is full of awful wind and vibrations. Those fast speeds are a sudden surprise to see and feel like nothing, that's what's so scary.

Best way is to take it real easy, get to know the bike first. Forget its a big bike, forget all the power and just learn how it handles, accelerates and brakes. Once you feel more confident then gradually open it up.
Although its not the same leap, when I got my R1 after my Hornet, I took it really easy for a few days before I started to see what the R1 could do.

I remember when my mate let me use his ZXR400 on an ehem... closed track, the minute i got it out of the carpark i pinned the throttle exactly as i would my 125 and instantly had a grin from ear to ear.

Rode it like a complete cock for about 15 minutes overtaking 30mph traffic at 120 and realised i had to hand it back before i either killed myself or got into trouble.

I think its that experience thats holding me back from getting a bigger bike.

I went to a 600 CBR from DAS. My first ride on my CBR was one of my best moments ever, scared the arse off me when I cracked the throttle open, the speed just kept on coming and the sound was epic.

I'm hoping there is a similar rush if I ever move up to a litre bike.

I went from the SC125 --> YZF600R.

Not really scary at all, the bit I had to get used to was not countersteering at low speeds like I did on the 125.

Jumped on Itchy CBR600 at the BCF BBQ. But his wasn't the first larger bike than a 125 I had ridden so I was kinda expecting the power.

Practically opened her up. Wink

Bigger bikes = fun.

Mr. Green

EDIT* I'm jumping onto a 750 from my 125. Thumbs Up

I did the same, just three short weeks ago. Passed the mod 2 on the Thursday, picked up my F4i on Friday, opened it up in 2nd, 5 minutes after getting on it for the first time.

Went howling past a little old dear doing 40 in her Micra, and scared the living hell out of her. She had her window open, and I'm not sure which was screaming louder - me or the bike. I seem to remember the phrase I was screaming was "Holy Fucknuts"...

Technically I went from nothing to a 600, I'd rode a friends 125 around for a couple of weeks but never owned a 125.

Twas insane.

When I first got the CBR600 I spent about an hour on my drive (in full leathers I might add) just going backwards and forwards getting to grips with the bite and how many revs..etc etc. Then opened her up down my road, where the 125 would get to maybe 20 before I had to start braking for my road? The CBR would get to about 45 Laughing

I jumped on an R1 from a YBR125, just took it easy, pulled off using the clutch most of the time :p

did give it some in first though, it's not as simple as you'd think to lift the front, think i may have managed it up an inch or two at most. 6th gear at 30mph pulled pretty damn quick, even compared to the YBR in 2nd/3rd lol

Why would you ever want to miss the 400/500/600 cc class?

I would of liked to do 400cc to 600cc but my budget didn't really allow for that.

What do you upgrade to after an R1? Laughing
