I'll just interject before this gets going like I hope it will ( ) and say that despite being a girl, I don't take 'you ride like a girl' as an insult cos I'm far too used to hanging around groups of blokes to be a raging feminist.

Because Girls have respect for their own lives and others and they generally ride (well) within their ablilites. Men have a thing called testosterone that makes them (us) do things in an aggressive hunter gatherer manner.

My girlfriend has been thinking about getting a bike for a while but she has often said to me "Don't expect me to ride quickly!" I asked her what she meant, and the gist of her reply was that she doesn't trust her own abilities to avoid bad situations, even at normal speeds.

The long and the short of it is she doesn't trust her own abilities/reactions to ride quickly. I personally do trust myself to ride within my limits and I know that they are often beyond the speed limit. Call this testosterone induced mania if you will but I love it!

Our agression tends to make us ride fast or try, a testosterone thing. If you don't ride fast as your mates your looked at as a girl because you have no aggression, intention or ability to ride faster. It's just a silly "Im HARD man thing" and blokes don't like to be told that they are less of a man than they think they are.
