which rear tyre ?

hi all, got a derbi senda 125 R, just had mot and got an advisory on back tyre, front one has plenty of tread left.
Obvious question is which "good but cheap" tyre should I get and where from.
The current one says Vee Rubber on and I'm guessing its not a very good one, the size is 4.10/ 18/ 60 p.
Does the new one have to be exactly the same or can you put slightly different widths on like you can on a pushbike?

Hi,

You can fit different width tyres but I would not recomend it. Two reasons 1. There is a good chance that your insurance company won't cover the bike if its in an accident. 2. Unless you have a really good idea of what you are doing you will most likely make the bike worse.

Alot of people think putting a wider tyre on will give them more grip, it very rarely does and much more often just makes the bike corner slowly and handle badly. Bike are not like cars in this respect they are much more sensitive to the tyres.

Buy the best tyre you can afford, its all that between you and a ditch

I looked up your bike and it is listed as having a 110/80 x18 rear tyre. Not sure where you got your sizes from but check them.

Are you using this bike off road, if not you could put road tyre on as it will give you more grip but you can only do this as a pair otherwise it will unbalance the bike and make it quite dangerous.

Vee rubber are made in Thiland, reviews are mixed. Personally I would go with one of the well known brands. Micheling a Pirelli both do off road tyres of this sort of size. Your best bet is probably to find a good local bike tyre place and ask advice there. If you are near Cambridge I can recomend Wheel Fit on the A10.
