Laptop fubar'd

Heyup chaps, hopefully some bright spark can save my laptop.

Over the past few weeks, now and again I would get the bsod stating memory management and some other jargon. Normally a reboot would make it work again. But it did it earlier and can't get it to reboot. To start with it would but only to get bsod again. Now it won't at all.

Tried in safe mode, safe mode with networking and with cmd to no avail. It will start finding loads of drivers etc and idle for about 10 mins and then shut down.

If I try and boot it up now my power light comes on but nothing else at all happens, eventually it turns itself off again.

Is it time for a new one? It's around 4 years old now but had a lot of use and abuse.

It's am Advent 9515 running W7 if it matters.

Open it up as much as you can and hoover the shit out of it, it is likely clogged with dust and overheating. The thermal paste on the CPU may also be gone by now and need redoing. BSOD is typically a memory related software issue. Which may mean your software is corrupt or that your memory or controller are fucked. Taking out 1 stick of ram if you have 2 and trying it on just each one alone might help, fresh ram might help, try running it off a linux live CD and see you you still get problems. If none of the above helps there is nothing more that can reasonably be done and it's time for a new one.

I already opened it up and hoovered it and brushed it out as much as i could, didn't seem to do anything at all.

Unfortunatley i only have 1 memory slot and no spare sticks lying around so i can't try another.

To be honest, i might just go buy another one, fancy a new one anyhow.

I have no idea what a linux live CD is (is that where you boot linux from a CD rather than installing it on the hard drive?)

Yeah thats what it is. You can get them posted to your house for free, get them from public libraries, download them for free. It loads the operating system from the CD and runs it without installing it so it makes no permanent changes to your system.

If it wouldn't run that it won't run anything and it's time for a new one

Well i was up at CCL with a mate this afternoon and ended up buying a new one anyway

Now i've just got to get this new access point to bloody work (for 360, i'm to tight to buy a wireless adaptor )
