Whats it worth?

Hey, there is a bike around the corner from me, year 2000 sv650 to be precise, which has been parked up and not moved in the last 2 years that i know of. Its covered in cobwebs, leaves etc and corroding.

Spoke to the owner yesterday, we are going to have a chat about it in the week about me buying it, here are some pics which i took this morning

He mentioned it needs a new clutch but unsure what state its in, needs new battery, chain/sprockets, tyres (cant imagine them being great after standing so long?), fork stanchions looked ok ish at a quick glance so hopefully wont be too pitted. Exhaust i couldnt see any holes , so hopefully not blowing or anything.

Obviously will need tank draining, carbs stripped and a bloody good service and overall tidy up on the whole lot. No idea on milage, will find out this week.

Mint on ebay they go for about 1k so i cant see this being worth much, any ideas? I have a price in mind to offer him, but i just want to check im not going to offend him

I wouldn't pay more than £350 - £400 for what is clearly a project bike.

i was thinking around £300 also, looking at £400 in bits and tax/mot easy (tyres, chain, sprockets, clutch, battery, service parts etc), assuming these parts need changing, chain/sprockets "might" clean up, tyres might be ok ish etc

Didnt want to make an offer and look a complete cunt

£250, £300, £350.... all reasonable from your point of view...
(or mine, if I had the same motives)
But flip it about, from the sellers point of view, and think what HE might think its worth.
As it stands, its stood for well, tax disc says April 09, so thats the last time it might have legally been on the road.
Seller admits it needs work, but hasn't done it, and condition has deteriorated from there.
So he MAY have the 'cant be bothered, its not worth it' attitude, and ANYTHING ££££ in hand is better than something rotting away doing nothing...
Alternatively, and slightly more likely..... he KNOWS its not really worth much, but resents 'giving it away' for some-one else to 'profit' from.
Either by making it useful again and enjoying riding it, or worse, selling it and making money out of it.
Now, IF he put a pressure washer over it, took some slightly more flattering photo's, 'over-looked' some of the faults, and stuck it on e-bay...... what would it go for?
As a complete and relatively unmolested bike, yes, minters go for around a grand twelve hundred.... but in the budget bike market, plenty would take the risk on that, up to around £600.
They would figure it 'might' scrub up & pass a test with little or no work, or if it didn't, its worth far MORE than that, broken for spares, e-bayed undividually.
Think about it, decent straight forks, plastics, foot-pegs, bars, switches, ALL the stuff that people want to fix up a bike thats fallen off its side-stand or been dumped in a SMIDSY incident.
If he was to give it a little more attension still, scrub it up, do minimum work for MOT, and pop it on e-bay, it could easily go £750 or more, JUST becouse its in that 'cheap bike' price range, where there are more impoverished buyers than there are 'cheap' bikes.
Having wighed that lot up........
I'd offer him £300 TOPS, as a project bike, VERY softly...
Then walk away if he had hopes of aspirations it was worth more, as it stands.
