hi all,
im trying to get the front brake working on a triumph, fitted with nissin calipers but not having much luck.
i have very little resistance at the front brake lever, though it does stop the wheel.
i have bled it through 3 or 4 times + im pretty sure theres no air in it.
i have pumped the pistons almost all the way out, cleaned them, + im able to push them back in by hand. (with a bit of effort)
when the brake lever is pulled, i can see the caliper move, sideways, in a sort of twisting motion.
any ideas?
sliders?
cheers,
GAZ
ps : if anyone is tempted to buy a 2007-2008 triumph bonneville t100, dont bother, made up of a lot of budget indian parts, cheap fixings + lights, only decent thing about them is the engine + im not too convinced of the quality of that either, lol
cheers,
GAZ

Hi

Assume that they are twin piston sliding calipers. Are they free to slide on the carriers?

All the best

Keith

When you pump the lever when the caliper is off, doe both pistons move or just the 1?

Sounds to me like you still have an air bubble in there somewhere. Take the caliper off and slowly roll it around in all directions to get the little air bubbles to collect into a big one and end with the bleed nipple facing up and try rebleeding.

It is possible that your master cylinder is knackered. This isn't an expensive job but definatly falls under the category of fiddley Wink

My speed four was a bastard to Bleed, it took ages to get any resistance, turns out fluid was leaking past the seals, replaced the seals and it was fine.

hi,
thanks for replies,
its got 2 pistons, which now move together when caliper is off its mount.
i can only presume its the master cylinder (unlikely) or the carriers/slider.
best way to free up this?
strip,clean + copper slip?
i also dont have enough resistance at the lever suggesting its not bled properly but i dont have my usual syringe with me, so bleeding it old fasioned way : pump brake lever, crack open nipple to expel any air (which shoots brake fluid everywhere, lol) & then quickly close nipple,
after a few times i get only brake fluid coming out & both pistons move out.
cheers,
GAZ

can you def be sure this is the orignal brake setup?

I had my cb1 set up with the wrong mastercylinder!

It was a mastercylinder for single caliper and I was trying it for a twin - the surface area and other bits of maths mean its not suitable - just a thought

Get a long length of clear hose that fits onto the nipple, suck the end of the pipe and pump the lever. Trying to do it with the bleed nipple alone never works as it always sucks air back up.

Yes, but not copper slip. Copper slip is anti seize stuff and not really designed as a lubricant.

All the best

sorted!
f*ck knows how i done it, but just removed the caliper,AGAIN, pumped the pistons out AGAIN & c leaned all around with a toothbrush & solvent AGAIN,lol
i think 1 of the pistons was a bit stiff as its now moving freely on the carrier,
thanks for the replies.
i usually have no problems with brakes but i think i have become too reliant on the syringe + reverse bleeding method.
done it the old skool way today, forgot how tedius it is,lol
cheers,
GAZ
