Looks like a Dnepr (rectangular cylinder head), probably the 650.

Looks like a Cossack/Dneper/Ural 650cc flat twin, some of which had a reverse gear.

It's a BMW of some sort going by the boxer engine. An R65 maybe, or an R45

Well it looks like an old WWI BWM outfit, as was manufactured in the former soviet union after the war when they apropriated the tooling, in one of two factories and marketed in the west as a Dniepneir, the russian name in western text, I think, or 'the other one', which was sold in the UK as a Hossak or Ural... bcouse it was eisier than trying to translate or pronounce the rusky!

Yep it's Ural / Dnepr. Heads look square so guessing it's a 650 Dnepr, or the later 750 engine.

Also, on the outfit ones, the one spare wheel carried on the sidecar will fit any of the wheels on the bike or chair. Clever.

Hence the availability of kits to retrofit a drum brake wheel on the new Urals that have a disk front end. Disks are overrated anyway Cool

but with just 34bhp, more mass than a super-tanker, and the propensity to go in any direction but a straight line, even before you try [laugh] changing velocity, in either direction, and it being a complete lotery which direction it will if you do....
It's only there for the laugh, anyway, I thought!

I must say I would love to have one of those. Especially with the 2w/d lever that some have. Embarassed

I owned one for several years which had 2 wheel drive and a reverse as well, they work well and are reliable but the standard carbs are junk and need replaced from new but I beleive there is a compny somewhere in England that imports them and modifies the the gearbox for a higher top speed and changes the carbs prior to sale.

They are just the same as any combo, just fit the cheapest and least adhesive tyres you can find then pray for rain or snow and enjoy. Such fun is to be had with a combo plus you can brake really hard in the wet to the point that the front brake locks and still control the steering. Its the natural evolutuion after 2 wheels and i.m.o should be compulsary prior to driving a car.

Most certainly but one needs to remember that unlike a 2 wheeler the handlebars on a combo are for holding on to and nothing to do with the direction in which the bike travels, you steer with the throttle and not the bars which makes for great fun on left handers. Laughing Laughing Laughing

yeah, as radical says, you steer with the throttle, and massive ammounts of lock at low speed.
Oh and stay away from the brakes, one emergency stop at speed without a good ammount of left hand lock will result in the sidecar overtaking you at a dramatic pace.
Ive only driven 2 sidecars, crashed em both (minorly, expect at least a hedge/fence interface whilst your getting used to it)

Cheers
John
