h2 woes.

brought a 1975 h2c from america 2 years ago , came with powerpipes and k&n filters, i never ran the bike but set out to restore the orig exhausts /airbox ect ..i located these parts and so now have just done the carbs..it came with 2 standard float needles and one from a 500h1b so ive replaced these with new standard needles set on the 4th notch , the pilot jets were size 3.5 and should have been 4.00 so ive put new 4.00 in ...also brand new main standard jets of 102.5 .. and finally a replacement k&n card filter recommended in the air canister allthough the original was foam...the bike starts first time idles perfectly and is fine untill 40mph plus when it starts to stutter and shudder , ive taken everything down several times and cant see why its doing this , all the cables are set correct but i just get it running propery after 40-50mph...?..cheers pete.

It's likely that the K&N filter will be far more free flowing than a foam one. On that basis you may need to up your main jet by one size or lift the needle another notch.

are they K&N individual pod filters? or a replacement for the stock filters?

If they are pods you will need much larger main jets.

thanks very much guys ...so it could be the air filter?..i havent got individuel pods but just one heavy round card filter from K&n which was quoted as being an h2 replacement...i wonder if its been that all along , ive just been told i can buy a replica "foam filter for £12..ive got to get the canister right off again ...bloody heck imagion its its been the air filter all along ! all these weeks of trying this and that...i just needed some guys to chat with over this ..thank you.

ive had the air canister out today and have taken a look at the "replacement" k&n style air filter i put in there during the build last year...well its not a round card but a monster made of a heavy gauze and mesh, it occupys the whole of the cannister and i cant see how this blaggard breaths!..i know i fitted it but it did not occur to me at the time. it was advertised on a french site for £16...could this be the bane of all my troubles?, ive got the original flimsy foam filtercoming this week...based on the orig ..could be the reason after all>

It's very likely the air filters at fault. But these bikes are extremely difficult to set up so they run nicely. I had endless grief with my H1a. It was the absolutely bollocks when it was running well. Sadly that wasn't often the case. I believe I used RamAir filters. Top speed was clocked by a mate at 127mph on one occasion. No idea how accurate that was but it felt more like about 450 I've still got a nervous twitch to this day
