As per title, I'm on the verge of buying one of these.. I was originally planning on getting a YZF-R125, but its over a grand more expensive and I'm also not that tall (5'10) so found the R125 I sat on to be a bit high and felt more comfortable on the CBR125. I only passed my CBT about a month ago and this is my first bike (have been driving cars for 10 years now).

Its £2100 for a 2007 bike with 1600 miles on the clock, 1 owner, FSH.. Thats with tax and MOT till July next year. Its a nice clean bike, no scratches or dents. Is that good or over priced?

Its just for me to ride around on for a year or so until I've built up the experience to take the DAS..

Hi

Looks a bit on the high side. Brief look on Autotrader suggests that is the top end price for a 07 reg CBR125 from a dealer with 2008 ones available for that. However the mileage is very low.

All the best

Keith

Having a look around they seem to have made engine changes in the 2007 model to make it fuel injection, is there much difference between this and the older models? The one I was looking at was an R6 version registered in 2007 so still has the older fueling system..

I am not sure how these hold up against CBR's. From what I understand you cant go wrong with Honda's. But there's a bike I keep seeing that looks the same size and styling as a CBR 125, and doesn't have bad ratings.

Its a Kymco bike, they are mostly rated 4 out of 5 stars on most review centres.

They look to be a bit cheaper. Just a thought.

If you're only riding it as a means to your test and full license, the advice pretty much dished out here would be along the lines of "Get a second hand CG/YBR or other Japanese learner 125 for much less than that CBR and then sell it afterwards, often making back what you bought it for and in some cases, more.".

Saying that, based on what I've read and friend's experiences, CBRs seem to be pretty reliable decent bikes, just annoying when you drop them and damage fairings.

+1

£2,100 on a 125 bike. That's enough cash to put yourself through your test and buy a 600cc bike.

Got mine for £750 (attached), and did my test for about £8-900.

However I went the YBR route for a few months which I bought for £700 and sold for £800.

Depends on your reasons I suppose.

CBR125r will keep their value and are a great bike with 'honda' reliabilty. I owned one and loved it. I sold it for the same as i bought it.

Buy one, get some experience then when you're ready do your big test then sell your CBR125.
Thumbs Up

I loved my CBR. Got a YZF R125 now, amazing bike for what I want.. love it! Very Happy

But that £2100 is not worth it at all. New CBR 125's are around £2700 (that's how much I got mine for) so I'd get one new if you're going to pay that much for one.

I hunted around and within a reasonable distance from me there weren't many for sale and they were all going for around £1800 plus.. The lower priced ones had about 15k miles on so I though sod it and have put the deposit down for this one, at least its very low miles! Smile

I did manage to get £100 off the price at least so I can put that towards some gear..

Should hopefully be delivered next week.. Can't wait! Very Happy

Thanks for all the advice!

if your only going to use the bike to gain experience before doing the DAS course i wouldn't waste money. as good as the cbr 125 is you are going to want a bigger bike the moment you start the DAS course.

most instructors use either a kwak ER5 or suzuki GS500 for their DAS courses and getting onto a 125 after a day out on one of them is a dissapointment as you spend all day driving around on a bike with excess power and then get onto your smaller one to ride home with and wonder where the powers gone.

personally. pick up a cheap no thrill bike like the cg125. wont cost much to own, engines bulletproof and insurance is cheap. which means more money saved for the DAS course.

failing that. just go straight in for the DAS as riding a bigger bike is a whole lot easier

I bought this cbr125! I've put 500+ miles on it and it's perfect for what I wanted it for. The only thing I would say is that I wouldn't buy one new or as new as you're looking. I paid £1000 for it, about the same as a YBR or even a newish CG and it won't really depreciate like newer models.

I say get an older one and sell it on once you've done DAS for what you paid. That is exactly what I plan on doing.
