Pretty sure one or two of the plug caps on my '92 GSXR750WN are past their best. One in particular won't screw securely onto the relevant HT lead and seems to be shorting/losing signal, causing one of the cylinders to intermittently misfire. I've already replaced the spark plugs and taped the caps up in case they were shorting on the cylinder head but that hasn't resolved the issue. So new caps is the next step.

Having had a quick search on wemoto and a few other sites, I can't seem to find new OEM caps for this model anywhere. Would aftermarket non-model specific NGK caps work (if so, which?), or do I need a model-specific aftermarket type? And where can I get hold of the right thing?

I think that a spark plug cap is a spark plug cap, unless they have coils etc built into them, or are designed to be waterproof etc.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Well, the stock ones do have rubber washers on them to stop water getting to the plug but I could put those washers onto another cap easily enough.

They have what I'm fairly certain are these at my local dealer (for £4 a piece). Am I right in thinking these should work?

Coils are separate.

The caps you show there will work fine.

Also, trim the HT leads back about a centimetre to make sure you get fresh copper.

When you do this the caps will need a fair bit of force to screw intot he leads, dont be timid.

Sorted, thanks gents.

Ended up fitting some NGK competition plug caps which are all rubber encased and look more durable and flexible (helpful given the tight spaces under the cradle frame) than the plastic ones. The original water seals fit over them just fine too.

Problem solved after the third strip down and rebuild! I just hate problems that only present when under load.
