Honda Hornet 600 Jumping out of gear.

Hello everybody, sinve I've owned the bike (over a year) the Hornet will sometimes drop out of gear.

On a ride the other night I was giving the bike some beans and I'd got it into 6th gear when suddenly it dropped out and it felt like there was nothing, so I eventually managed to kick it back into 6th after nearly taking all my toes off from the gear lever.

It also did it a couple of times before, it would drop out and no doubt redline.

Is this likely to be gearbox problems or me not getting into gear properly.

It doesn't happen very often, but when it does obviously worries me.

Check the chain tension and the oil level.

You may need to adjust the clutch cable a little or alter the gear lever.

All the above may help, or you are not been forceful enough when changing up

I agree with Paxovasa.

When was the last time you changed the oil? Sometimes fresh oil will fix a problem like this.

It has happened shortly after the 12K mile service, another 2k miles on and it happened again.

EDIT: Just checked the oil level and its fine, chain is all good too, although I haven't needed to tighten it for ages? It doesn't seem to get slack at all.

I've had my Hornet 4 years and it'll pop out of 6th gear maybe twice a year, it just seems to do it I haven't changed into 6th right. If it does it as infrequently as mine I wouldn't worry.

Alright thats cool. The 16K mile service is fast approaching ( I bought it at just under 6k). I clock up miles like nobodies business which is a shame as it makes me want to ride less.

It's not the re-sale value I'm worried about its the cost of servicing I don't do any of the work myself as I'm retarded when it comes to maintenance. Although I do most bits on my CG.
