About to replace my tired chain and sprockets on my 929 fireblade....so what do you 'orrible lot think....is it worth going for a high-end or budget set....anything in particular spring to mind?

Busters sell a kit on eBay for £70 D.I.D. Quite good quality, have it on the hornet, will on the bandit and put one on a friends blade.

Hi

Worth spending a bit extra for a decent chain, but sprockets I would be inclined to say that the more expensive alloy ones have no real benefit beyond tart value but will not last as long.

I've got regina Z ring chain and steel sprocket kit for my 929. Put it on at 21k miles and after a long winger and 9k miles, it's still going strong . Paid £180 including fitting and required VERY little adjustment in that time (only adjusted it 3 times i.e. once every 3.5k miles) whilst keeping it well lubed and clean.

With your bike putting out 120bhp at the back wheel, I certainly wouldn't go budget! my bike used to have an Iris chain and it was dire! Brand new when I got the bike and next to useless after another 5k miles. Multiple tight spots despite my best attempt to keep it clean.

DID/Tsubaki... all good chains. Sprockets is your choice however. Stick to steels.

Get a very good quality one and one thats gold for tart value!

Also get 15 teeth on the front sprocket like me you will accelerate insanely fast but lose some top end speed!

And get a speedo healer from healtec if you do to correct your speedometer reading!

D.I.D X ring of some form, gold if you want a flash one otherwise a normal one will do ya fine. As for sprockets, I'd be inclined to go for a cheaper one, the expensive (Rear) ones are generally aluminium and wear quick. I have seen some which are aluminium in the centre to reduce weight and steel on the outside to reduce wear however I can't really see much point over a steel one beyond tart factor.

i got renthal on mine. from what the previous owner tells me they are lighter than the standard.

means nothing to me as all i know is i twist the throttle and the bike moves.
