What options would people suggest- my wife has a 7 mile commute into London which she does by bus and tube or train which are late about half of the time.

This morning she set off early planning to get in by 08:45 and arrived at 10:00 on the way she phoned me and asked how much scooters cost!

So what should I be looking at, is a 5 year old one with 15,000 miles on it worn out? How much do you have to spend to get a reliable one? Which models/makes should be avoided? are big wheels better?

Sorry for the scooter question I know nothing about them.

She has a full car license .

Cheers

I had a Honda @125, which was replaced by the Dylan. 125, 4 stroke. I did nothing to mine rode it for 18 months and 3000miles and traded it in for exactly what I paid for it. Cost 1200quid 6 months old with about 500 miles on it.

Agree, bought Mrs Wife a Piaggio Fly 50cc for £999 brand new from dealers in Forest of Dean. Its a nice large scooter so is comfortable and for a 50 goes really well.
Only thing that put me off was the large sticker under the seat that reads "Made in China" - So much for paying extra for an Italian bike Laughing

Make sure the scooter you get her has large wheels, London streets are terrible for beginners and has enough power to get away from lights so not to piss off other road users. I swear by Yamaha, look at a Cygnus.

Suzuki has a relatively cheap sh125 like model with proper brakes and wheels.

stick to piaggio they have a simple engine with easily available spares,
and dealers every where, there are hundreds of used ones for sell in all shape sizes and cc's. and they are the most popular for a reason.

don't buy any thing Chinese,
the big bike brands (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki) make decent scooters, but they are inferior to the piaggio/Gilera
same goes for Peugeots bikes

for a lady id recommend something small and light, like a zip,
or some thing robust like a vespa
(panels are metal and stand up to damage better then light plastic)
the 4t engines come with a factory immobilizer and they are easy as cake to work on
Thumbs Up
