Hi

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-10711786

Oxfordshire, renowned for its over use of cameras has voted to cut right back on them, possibly eliminating them.

All the best

Keith

The partnership says the cut equates to a 71% drop in their income from the council and enforcement at mobile sites will cease "with immediate effect".

And people think these are cash cows..... If they made so much money, why do they need funding to the tune of £600K a year, for 161 camera's.... Thats one hell of a lot per camera... Before they even start with the fines.

Wise move by the council Thumbs Up Save £600K and please every driver/rider in the county in one swoop....

Win win all round Karma

The council needs funding for cameras because the income generated goes straight to the treasury; and the council gets it's 'upkeep' paid for as return rather than being able to directly use the monies obtained from fines.

There's no doubt that these are cash cows - the positioning of many cameras makes that fact obvious.

The council are no longer allowed to keep the money. (I am sure Keith can correct me or elaborate making my statement a bit more correct).
This only happened recently and hence lots of announcements about how local governments have seen the error of their ways and realise speed cameras aren't doing much for road safety.

There's a bit more on the whole debate about whether speed cameras actually contribute to safety or not on the BBC:

Didn't I hear that Gloustershire were planning or have already carried out the same idea?

Recently found out that Northamptonshire is turning off 1 in 5 cameras due to the cut in funding. They're not saying which ones though Smile
