I need to get an MOT next week. I think everything will be fine, need to do a couple of things.
(this is the first MOT I have ever put a bike through)
One question for the experts of BCF. I have no plastic chain guard is this a failure or a warning?

It'll be a fail, you need a chain guard as a safety item

OK I will have to try source one. I have had the bike nearly a year (so got it just after last MOT).
Do you think that a dodgy garage let it through last time without the guard or has someone taken it off after last MOT and not replaced it for some reason?
I will look on ebay for one, its a gsxr 750 s 1995 if anyone knows where I could get one in next few days.

Hi

Don't think a missing chain guard is a fail. If fitted it must be secure and not foul the chain, etc, but nothing in the MOT rules saying that one must be fitted.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Remember that just because something passes an MOT (or isn't an MOT fail) doesn't mean that it is road legal. Obvious example would be a non working speedo which is not an MOT fail.

Think a missing chain guard might be a construction and use offence.

All the best

Keith

Really? I will get one as soon as I can then? If you got stopped riding without one with a arsey copper, would it just be fine or points?

Hi

Probably unlikely but if they did I suspect it would be a CU20 for 3 points. Not sure if that is a £30 or £60 fine.

All the best

Keith

I stand corrected, but I'm fairly sure as Kickstart said that you could get nicked for not having one

Mine passed last week with no chain guard, not mentioned at all.
Don't know about the legal side though, probably unlikely to get picked up unless it flings off at speed and kills a kitten
