First time buy for new rider

Very interested in getting a Run around moped to take me to work and back,
Currently 17 at college, and would all be out of my pocket so I'm not really loaded you could say,
Friends got a X reg Yamaha Neos he would sell me for 200 big ones,
Its got 4600 miles on the clock and has it MOT passed,
Just wandering if this is a good deal and what kind of questions I should ask him about the bike, also what things i should pick up on that could cause future problems,

Thanks for all the information,
I believe the MOT has a month left on it, but he hasn't crashed or dropped it in the time he's had it,
He says he regularly oil,s it every 3 fill up's,

You need to check the gearbox oil too, assuming it's a 2 stroke.


From what I remember of my old scoot the dipstick was near the rear wheel, was a screw in plastic cap

Sound fair like but you could buy it and it fail its MOT, ask him to put it through one as you can put it in a month before it expires. If it passes you should get the year out of it.

How much do usual Bike Mot's cost? Just curious to how much

£30 for a bike MOT test.

But if it doesn't pass then you've got the cost and hassle of getting it up to MOT standard.

Tell your mate you'll buy the bike and pay for the mot if it passes. Cant really expect him to MOT it then sell it to you for £200, that would make him really selling it for £170 which if it is OK, is taking the piss a bit.
