Anybody do it?

I've just downloaded an app called c:geo for my android phone and signed up on www.geocaching.com

Basically you look for loads of caches and log that you have found one. Pretty good for those nights at work when i'm stuck in a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Puts GPS to good use. Thumbs Up

Geocaching is for old people who have beards. It's very boring and it's very dull.

There are plenty of more interesting routes and places to go in the same areas as the geocaching waypoints, but geocachers don't go for fun and excitement, they go for the self satisfaction of logging the waypoint in the carpark. Sleeping

I got into geocaching in 2002 when there were very few caches hidden in the UK and the ones that had been placed were well thought out and interesting. I stopped playing when the country got saturated by dull box-in-a-hedge caches abandoned by their slow witted owners.

The best bit about it was being taken to amazing places on your doorstep that you had no idea were there. Some of the slightly naughty ones that required a spot of fence hopping or finding yourself in an abandoned nuclear bunker were great. But they tightened up the rules and all that was gone. The worst bit was being taken to some ghetto to find a poorly maintained ice cream box full of stinking water and surrounded by used condoms and dogshit.

I still have a look on the site for interesting caches if I’m going somewhere new, but generally I can’t be bothered. It is a good way to get your lazy carcass out of the house, but only if you remember to take a warm cardigan and make sure your beard looks tidy. Wink

an interesting alternative i had a pop at for a while was geohashing. unfortunately nothing to do with the green and more to do with xkcd and reproducible pseudorandom mathematical formulae... plus, as Nothing Ever Happens In The Midlands, no-one else was ever around, and the meet point usually turned out to be in some random person's back garden.

the attempt to be in "two places at once" (when the clocks went back) was a complete disaster also. who knew the A456 got so twisty?
