Well after having a close shave with the law 2weeks ago today (had a copcar on a call sitting behind me in the outisde lane of the M5 at Worcester witnessing me do rather high speeds) and being relieved at getting away with it what do I go and do tonight.

I come back from Cardiff freezing to death with the Blade choking to death beneath me. Regulator busted and the battery was so dead my headlights were barely glowing and my speedo had stopped working. Coming up the M5 past worcester...again giving quick glances in my (iced up) mirror every now and then paranoid about the previous tuesday. Speedo aint working at all or if it is it's bouncing around the place I'm goin fairly quick not too fast tho, look in my mirror at some rather bright headlights, twats got full beam on...nooo it's got 2 little blue flashing lights on top..didn't see them the first time I looked. So I pull in a lane hoping hes gonna pass....noo so onto the hardshoulder.

Lets me leave the bike running coz i said it wouldnt start if i stopped it, takes me into the car, shows me the 0.8 mile average speed reading of 105.4mph, lovely jubbly, i'm now waiting for a court summons. Apparently I went past them like they were standing still, 120 they reckon, didn't see em, oh well im fucked too now Rolling Eyes

Sad

Well you've got about between 5 and 6 months I guess until you hear anything Sad

Could get lucky and not be banned. How long till your points allowance increases to 12?

Gutted.

Was it an umarked cop car then?
What system were they using to record speeds... do you know what (police constabulary) area it is in?

Hopefully if it is a ban (very likely) then it'll be short at least Confused. You culd always try some serious 'nee licence for uni/work... to see family/girlfriend etc'.. but I think that can result in more points... while it's probably best to take a bigger fine option if there is one.

Unlucky mate. Sad

It's a sobering thought though...but it probably still won't stop me from speeding. Confused

Fingers crossed mate.

Unlucky mate! Can't you say about your speedo etc? See if they'll let you off with just points. Say it went while you were riding and you didn't realise you were going so quick.
Anyways you're probably gonna have to sweat it out for a while till they decide to put you out of your misery.

What a downer Alex Neutral Sad . Thats seriously bad luck mate. You have 6 months to prepare yourself for the worst and ride the bike some more try not to let it get you down too much.

Personally I wouldn't mention the speedo, they could start quoting "construction and use" bollox.

Shitter Sad Unlucky Phoe

How were the coppers that stopped you? Were they okay or were they self righteous cnuts? Did you get the "Do you know how many bikers like you we scrape off the roads..." whinge?

Btw how come they didn't check the bike over after you said it wouldn't start again if you switched it off? Seems like you were a bit lucky on that front. Shocked When I got stopped they checked bloody everything for BStandard marks and faults.

Good luck

The fact your speedo don't work isnt an excuse for doing 105mph Sad

The fact your speedo don't work is a reason you shouldn't be riding the bike at all... and is more likely to get you in more trouble IMO.

The speedo stopped working on the way home coz the reg/rec is gone so the battery is just not recharging, it does slightly charge the more revs u give it hence the quick 120mph burst and then slowing down again, I didn't know I was doing over 100 but I knew I was doing more than 70.

They didn't check the bike at all, didn't seem interested, they were okay to me, stuck the heater on in the car coz i was fuckin frozen and breathalised me too (ok ofcourse). It was Gloucestershire police but I was in Worcestershire afaik ...dunno if that makes any difference. They took my speed reading by measuring my time between two fixed points 0.8miles apart (they were chasing me) and the average was 105.4. They'd called for backup because they didn't think i had seen them or was gonna stop, but they called it off another car turned up halfway through my little talk. It was a fully marked Estate car, they said they couldn't understand how I didn't see them when I came past...well I didn't was prolly looking at my speedo trying to get it to work.

Anyway they gave me a producer for insurance and MOT (which is ok) and said I can expect a court summons in 8-10weeks and will probably be looking at some kind of disqualification, they said they don't mind ppl speeding so much but doing over 100 is stupid and were more bothered by the fact I hadn't seen them when I went past.

Sounds like you got some decent(ish) coppers then. Good luck with the summons...you never know with all these Royal Mail strikes it could get lost in the post Razz (yea i know they'd still find a way of making it your fault Rolling Eyes )

Oh crap Sad

Not spotting them probably won't help in court Neutral As someone said, the "need license to visit family" might help, as from what I've rear elsewhere, they don't give a crap about being harsh on yu, but if it means you can't visit parents etc who are living long way away, then they might be more leiniant Confused

Sad

I *think* they send court summons recorded delivery, as they have to have made reasonable effort to get the thing to you within 6 months of the NIP being given Sad

So nailing your letterbox shut dont work either Sad

Surely they won't bother checking anything else if they've already charged him for something?

ive really not got a clue Tin, but i personally would whip restrictors straight back in, road legal can on etc

maybe im just paranoid but for the sake of an hour in the garage getting the bike legal again to be on safe side, i'd prefer to get it done.

but as i said , i doubt they would check.

They won't

The bike would have had to have been impounded at the time of the offence to check that, cos as soon as you have left you can change stuff. Just like how they take photos of something wrong with your veichle at the scene as opposed to asking you to bring it to them a week late with the hope you've still not fixed it.

Restrictors won't be going back in, no point, I've got the paperwork and even if I needed that they'd have asked for it with the producer which they didn't. I don't have a road legal can so that staying too and again it doesn't matter. The only thing I can see possible causing the bike to be looked at is me claiming the speedo wasn't working, but I plan to fix that soon because it's unrideable like it is now.
