Yammy FZ750

Hi all

I will probably be buying a Yamaha FZ750 next month subject to viewing.

What are they like, then? Who's had one?

It will be my first proper big bike so I have no idea what to expect

It's £450 and on an F reg, is this a decent price? Any particular bad spots to look for when viewing?

It doesn't have an MOT but apparently is a good runner, hence why I need to check it out properly when I view and need to know what is prone to going on them.

All I'd say is good luck, I wouldn't even bother viewing based on the above. Old Yamahas. It'll probably drink oil too. More hassle than it's worth.

if its been looked after and is in good condition then age dont really matter too much. just make sure all the usual suspects are checked over, fork seals, burning oil, not jumping out of gear, anything loose or rattly, and the numbers and body work all match up.
if you can risk spending £450 and be prepared to do some work then go for it. i love 80's/90's 750s! (prefer kwaks though! )

Hi

Very solid engines. Only issue is the bearing behind the front sprocket if you over tighten the chain. Valves are down to be checked at 28k. Mine burns basically no oil, but on the other hand is an early 1FN and they changed the pistons for the later 2MG and onwards.

Build quality was pretty good. From the times when 750s were well built and selling well while the 600s were designed as cheapo bikes.

Tyres are a bit of an issue as they have a 16" front and 18" rear, and both are fairly narrow.

Spark plugs are gits to change without a suitable thin walled plug socket.

Micron exhausts on them work badly (large flat spot between 3k and 4k).

Seat is agony

Fuel tank is a decent size and has a decent electric reserve system.
