Giving some my VIN number for a HPI check?

Hey have a bike for sale on ebay.

Someone just sent me a question saying that he wants to do a HPI check? Wants my chassis number...

Just something does not feel right with all of it.

In his feedback he has bought crash bungs,mudguard and stuff for an R6 which he says is his wifes..

Part of me is thinking of the worst...That he has a battered bike will stamp my chassis number onto a frame etc etc.

Sent me quite a long waffling email through ebay.

Now don't know how all this VIN number stuff works and if he could just get one with the number plate?

Am I being totally ridiculous? Just don't have a clue if this is the norm.

registration is more than enough for a HPI check

A full HPI check requires the VIN, and V5 serial number. You need all these bits for the guaranty to be valid.
