What res should I scan old photos as if I were to digitise them all?

Depends how much storage space you have, and how much detail you're after??
I've normally used between 100dpi, up to 300dpi on scanning old pics in the past with acceptable results.
If you intend to make copies, printouts and/or enlargements, the higher the resolution the better the end result will be. HTH Thumbs Up

storage shouldn't be a problem, should i just scan them at the max our scanners can do?

i believe they can go up to 4800dpi lol

4800 is over kill and I doubt a home scanner would do it.

Even scanning at 1200 dpi, produces massive files.

If you never intend to blow them up bigger than A4, I wouldn't go above 600dpi.

To be honest I scanned all my old photos in at 300dpi.

I even have a slide & negative scanner.
