Saw this on t’internet and thought I’d give it a try.. the theory is that you take a lens from a CD player and place it over your mobile phone camera lens and it magnifies the image…

- Took apart an old DVD player that was lying about in the garage and removed the lens / mechanism:
- When I carefully (i.e with a big screwdriver and some brute force) removed the lens I punched a hole in the sticky part of a post-it note to hold the lens to the phone
- Stuck it on the back of my phone (Nokia X6)
- That’s it !

Photo's of process:

Lens in post-it note:

£1 coin without the home made lens, it’s about as closely zoomed in as possible without going blurry :

And here’s one with the lens on : actually not bad !

Couple more with the lens – First one can be seen on the very first picture above, it’s the little cog at the bottom of the mechanism:

And this is a bit of solder from the side of the white plastic bit origionally holding the lens:

All in all – a bit pointless, but worked ok and killed half an hour… bit o’ fun!

Good job Thumbs Up

I tried to do this once, but all I ended up with was some cuts on my finger and a phone covered in glue...

Nah where the camera is. When people ask why you're taking their picture hurts you can tell them it's just the red eye reduction.

if i knew how - i would give it a go!!

plus - probably hit a wall trying to power it, as (i think) phones are 3.7v and the DVD player internals are probably 12v...

I'm sure you could find a tiny transformer that would do it. Problem is that fitting anything inside a phone case is near impossible.
