I've been thinking about transferring my meagre savings from my ISA into premium bonds. I don't think I'd miss the few pounds a month interest and at least have the chance to win something bigger.

I only have any Premium Bonds because my late Granddad gave them to me a couple of years ago. He gave me and my brother £1000 worth each.

The interest isn't that good and i wouldn't take from an ISA to put into PBs.

I've had 30k in there for a couple of years an the returns have been:

Last 12 months £275. Less than 1% if I'm correct? Previous 12 months £500. -> 1.6%. The 12 month period before that was also £500 / 1.6%

Their rate did drop down over the last year or so and the minimum prize was reduced from £50 to £25. Technically, with 30K in there you have good odds on one win (£25) a month or £300 a year.

So, expect 1% returns with a little bit of excitement each month.

The money is for a house deposit, and i'm sort of hoping that I'll get a win and afford a decent place !

The amount in my ISA isn't enough to be really worried about the interest gained . I'll whack it into premium bonds and chance my luck.

That's what was happening with me. My family quite often got cheques for £25, £50 and I got nothing. Then I won £1000! Suckers!

I had some for a while until I found out the actual equivalent interest rate is 1.5%.

You're better off with an ISA - 2.75%, and spend the interest on lottery tickets if you must!
