I've just had my car insurance renewal through and it's gone from £67 a month to £137 Shocked

So, i've given Endsleigh a quick ring this morning and asked them not to renew it when the policy expires, whilst simultaniously expecting the whole, "lets have a look and see if we can reduce your premium as an existing customer" shindig, but no, all I got was, "that's fine sir, your policy will not be renewed. Is there anything else I can do for you today?"

I thought, yeah there is actually, you can at least act like you're a bit bothered i'm taking my business else where, but decided to bite my tongue Laughing fair play to them for actually listening to their customer and doing what I wanted, but it can't be doing their retention rates any good. Alternatively, they percieve that I've become twice as dangerous a driver in 12 months, but I hope not!

And as a side note: SwiftCover FTW!

Whinge over Laughing

Fair point well made sir, but I could say the same for endsleigh. Anyway, 12 months is a long time, but I suppose I better start looking for next years quotes now so that I can play insurnace companies off against each other (although I could be covered by Afghanistan Direct for all I care, as long as I have that certificate and it's the cheapest price I'm not bothered who I'm with)

endsleigh have lost their ability to do competitive quotes... however, mine went from 750 to 1150, talked them down to 900 including windscreen cover..

theres been about 5 windows put through this year, so well worth it for me....

i think after months of having people kicking off theyve all been disheartened, and know they cant beat quotes..

I've never paid more than the previous year for insurance (unless I changed to a much higher group car mid term). They always try to increase it, often double but there's no justification and i'll spend days ringing around until it's the same or preferably cheaper than the previous year. Unfortunately while bike insurance get's much cheaper for me year on year car insurance came down a fair bit 3-4years ago but hasn't really moved the last few, well not the every day car, the American policy has hit pretty much as low as it possibly can.

I was with Endsleigh too last year, price went up quite abit.

I moved on to another insurance company, I expect them to be fairly expensive next year.

Apparently the first year of car insurance with some companies is a lossleader, to try and get you in. Some people will stay with them the next year regardless of price for less hassle.

Annoying I have a low insurance grouped car yet I pay one of the most expensive premiums outside of London!

Personal lines insurance is going through the roof as insurance companies are trying to claw back some of the huges losses they have made. Quinn withdrawing has helped the insurers to put premiums up as there is less capacity.

Average insurance premiums on private motor policies for 17-22 year olds has increased 44% since Oct 2009!

Any insurer who also has a home insurance arm is really suffering due to the floods that hit the UK last year. I work for a rather well know insurer that saw the profits fall from around £800m to around £70m due to home claims, as well as the huge increase in personal injury claims. I know £70m isn't a small amount, but a drop of £710m in a year is pretty grim for a business.

Everyone will see their insurance increase this year as a general rule due to losses in other sectors and overall increased claims.

Also, no insurance companies 'loss lead' any more. Since the advent of price comparison sites it is simply a loss as shopping around is definitely the norm.

Playing one company off against another isn't a bad idea, but just be careful as a lot of the companies are under the same group, so you're best getting a LOT of quotes for this exercise!
