Well not quite. Been on extended leave. Thought I'd drop by and see how things were going.

Hi to all the new folk and hi to all those who remember me whether you care to or not!

Sold the road bike a few weeks back, had been using it less and less. Considered getting a 98 R1 but may leave that till next year. Fancied a bit of something different so went and bought this. ACU licence turned up yesterday, hoping to do a novice trial at the end of the month.

Careful... its highly addictive! Like Pringles; One hop and you just cant stop!
Tiss great fun.

Anyway. Best tip I can offer. BOOTS.
Get 'propper' trials boots.
Wore 'off-road' boots for years, before they fell apart, before getting a pair of Gearne 'Trials' boots. The difference was amazing!
There's a lot of difference in the construction, & main bit is the flexibility of the ankle and instep, that help you feel whats going on beneath your feet on and off the bike, where most 'dirt-bike' boots are a lot more rigid to support you leg.

Oh, and high-energy drinks.
I used to get a six-pack from Aldi for each event; one per lap, and one for when I'd packed the bike away!
Its AMAZING how much you sweat paddling one of them things about!
One of the events I actually took class in, was PURELY down to de-hyrdration! Course had been laid out the night before in a stream gulley. Heavens opened that night, turning it into a raging torrent and morass of mud, but by the time we arrived sun was out, and it was hot and humid as heck. Half the field DNF'd

Oh... last tip. If you gonna plant your foot..... do it, and do it definitely.
You score 'one' for a dab, but 'hover' foot off the peg, an a keen observer, can count every touch as a dab, so if you lift your foot off the pegs, do something with it, and do it firmly and confidently. You max out at five, so hovering a foot is a VERY quick way to a high score!

best of luck
