Hi guys, got my bike up for sale, advertised on this forum and others, but nobody seems interested!

Comparing to same model bikes on autotrader, similar mileage costs £200-300 more than I've priced mine at, although I haven't advertised on autotrader/mcn/etc.

Speaking from previous experiences, where is the best place to sell a bike?

Bike is Yamaha YBR125.

Thanks for help in advance!

I tried to sell my DT on as many free places as i could but with no real interest , i put it on auto trader and within the first few days i had three separate people coming to see it over one weekend and the first person who came to view it ,bought it , so id recommend spending a little and putting it on there.

best of luck Thumbs Up

yeah I'm looking at putting it on autotrader or something, just wondering which one is the best or what people prefer Smile

Gumtree has always worked for me - they're usually gone within a week of placing the advert.

Use all the photos that you're allowed to (five I think), give a full description, and they will come Smile

Ebay sadly has become far and away the number one place for buying (and therefore advertising) bikes I reckon. The days of the free ad are numbered in my opinion but Pistonheads and Gumtree are worth a shout as they'll cost you nothing.

Of course you could always put a "what's my bike worth" or "where's the best place to sell my bike" thread in General Bike Chat Whistle

I sold my Sprint in 3 days on ebay, after a couple of weeks of zero interest from free ads on various websites.

How much are we talking about for ebay fees on a bike?

A classified ad on ebay is 16 quid flat fee for a month, the auction can cost up to 45 if it sells!

I feel your pain though. My hayabusa was the lowest miles for its year and 500 quid cheaper than some that were three years older with 20k miles on them and I still had some wankers (most of them geordie for some reason) telling me it was 1000 too much!

Stick to your guns if you put it on ebay and dont be afraid to turn people away who take the piss! I put best offer on mine and made sure anyone making an offer knew that was the price or they were wasting a journey!

Put my CBR125 on eBay and Autotrader, nothing, 1 week on GumTree, 2 viewings. Oh, and sold by the end of the week.

It's all coincidence, you might get 'lucky' but there's not much you can do.

Good luck!

I would avoid Gumtree, Ive seen lots of dodgy ads on there. Advertised my own bike on there yesterday - today received an email asking how much would I take, I wasnt going to reply as it was a gmail account which makes me sus anyway. Replied, then recieved the usual badly written "I cant use a phone or view but I will give you the full amount just give me your paypal info and I will send you the money.

The fact that I replied means they now have my email. I dont think they can do fuk all with it but yeh, a heads up - avoid sh*tty Gumtree Thumbs Up

I had the same experience as swiftb38, asking me for bank details or paypal details AND pictures... why would you agree to buy a bike you've not even seen pictures of?
On the same note, the instant I put a contact e-mail address on biketrader I got some dodgy e-mails saying they were from Ireland and wanted to pay via a bankers draft for more than the bikes worth to cover shipping costs and then pay the rest back to them!

Think ebay or part-ex is the way forwards

When I was selling the CG125 I put adverts on here and Gumtree for a couple of surrounding areas

Had a few timewasters from Gumtree (mainly no show after being offered full asking price and handing out my address and phone number so they could come and view/pick up...which did have me worried for a while)

Also had some silly responses that did get answered politely and I ammended the ad to show I would only swap it for real english pounds to curb the "swapz it for a broken scootay blud" types

Thankfully it found the right owner in a short space of time (on here and IIRC he spotted it on Gumtree as well)
Ads were deleted as soon as the bike went to its new owner

Not had any scammers / late night visitors come to try to take the bike without paying ... or any extra helpings of spam in my inbox since the advert, so my experiences were OK of Gumtree and I would definately use it again

I used my least monitored email address to advertise the bike and monitored it closely when the ads went live

Plenty of good quality pics and a good thorough description is the only way to do it
If the machine is sound, genuine and road legal and a 125cc at a good honest price it should sell itself in no time at all (as long as its made obvious to the potential buyer that this is the case)

...but I guess you already know this

Regards
Rob
