Unmarked firearms car pulled me for speeding, I didn't confess to anything and it came apparent to me that they didn't have speed reading equipment, thank god I thinks, they start looking around the rat, ask a few questions, giggle about the pushbike speedo and look worried about the towing hitch on the back. Then they slapped me we with a 60 quid fine for failing to display tax. Sad

Heres the question though, Ive got seven days to produce but don't have my insurance documents, whats the likelihood of me being able to get adrian flux to post them out recorded delivery and it be here in time?

Cheers
John

Adrian flux emailed me a PDF of my insurance once, and I printed them out which was good enough for UK customs.

If you go to the nick where you are required to produce and tell them you need another week or what not for your documents to be posted out.

I had a producer after my accident, but was still in hospital so couldn't go, my dad went to the nick and they said no problem, and gave me another week.

If they havent replied by monday resend the email and put "URGENT:" in the subject.

What are the laws regarding displaying the tax disc? Somebody could have nicked off your bike.

Is the tax paid?

the law should change on that now everything is on a database, i mean they can easily radio in to check if it's covered.

Same with licence, insurance, etc... guess producers are now only used to annoy people they can't pin anything 'juicy' on Confused

Then they wonder why they are losing peoples respect for them. Rolling Eyes

Come and live in N.I for a while were all police officers are armed and dont need a reason to pull you, search or arrest you, we also have to display an mot disc which sometimes can carry the same penalty as a tax disc and dont get me started on the mot system over here.

An MOT disc makes a certain amount of sense. I know that you can't get tax without an MOT, but I completely forgot about my MOT being expired for a whole 7 months until I was pulled for it. At least there would be a visual reminder somewhere. That sucks that you have to have two discs displayed on a bike though?

BikeSure which is part of Adrian Flux emailed mine to me within 30 minutes, I printed them off and produced the certificate just last week. No issues.

John, a ratter is going to attract attention from the cops, keep it legal and display your tax.

I'm not certain of the legality of this so called fixed penalty.

Failure to display is an offence under the "Vehicle Excise and Registrations Act 1994"

Quote:
Not exhibiting licence (1) A person is guilty of an offence if—
(a) he uses, or keeps, on a public road a vehicle in respect of which vehicle excise duty is chargeable, and
(b) there is not fixed to and exhibited on the vehicle in the manner prescribed by regulations made by the Secretary of State a licence for, or in respect of, the vehicle which is for the time being in force.
(2) A person guilty of an offence under subsection (1) is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 1 on the standard scale.
(3) Subsection (1)—
(a) has effect subject to the provisions of regulations made by the Secretary of State, and
(b) is without prejudice to section 29.

Level 1 is £200 maximum as you say, but the "summary conviction" bit, means convicted in magistrates court going by a legal dictionary, not the side of the road.

If your vehicle was taxed, they could have checked and then their interest in it should end. I reckon anyone who has a taxed vehicle would have a good chance of getting out of such a fixed penalty, if you fancy having a go.

I'm another for getting a 60 quid fine for not displaying tax.
(a 15 pound tax disc that I had paid for).

I was polite as I possibly could, talked enthusiastically with them about their big beemers and old BMW's I was interested in.

I considered lying and saying it must have fallen off or maybe someone nicked it while I was parked up in town, but instead I gave these nice gentlemen a confession that I had forgot to put it in my new jacket I was wearing that I just got for my birthday.

If any of you get pulled, never give the cops the benefit of the doubt even if they seem just like the interesting random bikers you get to talk to.

You could have called that the good cop - good cop routine.

At least I know now that it is ALWAYS better to lie to the police when you know you will get away with something rather than tell them the truth.

+1 to always having your bike all legal so that you can enjoy the other parts of your riding in peace. Friends tell me my cans are too quiet, but they're quiet for a reason. Laughing

I presume you didn't have it on you?
They've been fine when I've pulled a fresh tax disc out of my wallet.

If not on you, I believe the reply is "OMG, it was there when I looked last week - someone must have nicked it!"

Next time point at a random threaded hole and say 'it was there this morning!'.

The only way I can see any reason for the 'failure to display' is if you were to own multiple bikes, all painted the same colour and debadged, and stuck the same number plate on them all. I doubt most officers would realise what bike they were looking at.
