Jesus - this is one of the least funny things I have ever seen.

https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2010/08/02/11483/america_has_another_bash_at_the_it_crowd

How can they remake a show line for line and even keep one of the funniest characters from the UK version, and still make something as bad as that.

Its not word for word, but its very close.

Must've been annoying for Moss for him to do it all again, even his performance wasn't as good.

They also missed out the main pun, which is yesterdays jam, and they added the lunch, and the whole idea of putting someone on hold. Also made all the references american, and the title clip is slightly different, and Denholm is black.

I fucking love IT Crowd, and i've seen it so many times, this is how i know... Embarassed

Shocked .................WTF!?!?!?

I can't believe I managed to watch the 1st part of that episode. I'm curious as to how much they're paying the guy who plays Moss (don't know his name). Surely he can see how crap it is? Confused

Actually, pretty much after the title scene, most of its changed, and all the funny parts are gone, Moss now understands when Roy is making up something impressive (Changes from books to wrestling an alligator) and the "what can i do you for?" is gone completely. And the headwound gag is there, but moss points it out before roy goes and confronts jen later. If he doesnt pass out, they've made the gag pointless.

Agreed completely pointless, interesting to see the guy who plays moss selling out to earn a buck, there's no way he can look at this and think it's funny to any degree, but I guess that mortgage ain't gonna pay itself. I dunno if it's true about the British version, but there seems to be a hell of a lot of canned laughter in the clip which adds to the shitness. This'll flop in the states because they won't get moss and I don't think any of the actors there can capture the spirit of their british counterparts to make the jokes what they are.

Yeah, I actually sat through that. It was shockingly bad. Words cannot properly describe it.

Haha, just seen the title sequence for the US pilot; Roy still looks like proper Roy, Jen is not blonde and they shoved new Renholm in there as a massive afterthought. LAME!

I first caught an odd episode of the IT Crowd when it first appeared and didn’t get it.
In the past month and a half i’ve watched series 1, 2 & 3. It’s defiantly a grower, i really loved series 2 and 3 has been good. Just watched episode 1 of series 4 last night and liked that.
Haven’t seen the US one, probably steer clear of that.

P.S Jen is hot stuff Razz Thumbs Up

Doug97 and Colin1, plane tickets and sets of keys will be sent to you this week. Destination, America. The keys are to some quaint lovely trailers. Passport control will shred your passports as you leave. Enjoy your new lives, don't visit, don't write. Hopefully integration will be smooth, as you share a common ground with our yank friends, you just don't understand true british comedy.

That's funny, cos I lived in Canada (basically the same as America, just don't say that to a Canadian) for 3 years and came back here cos I though it was better.

And I love loads of British comedies, in fact I think we do the best comedies in the world. Fawlty Towers, Not the Nine O'clock News, Blackadder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, The Day Today, Brass Eye, Big Train, I'm Alan Partridge, Smack the Pony, Black Books, Spaced, The Office, The Mighty Boosh, Monkey Dust, Outnumbered etc. etc. I thought Father Ted was pretty good - but The IT Crowd just isn't that funny. The jokes are old and the actors are weak. It reminds me of lame stuff like Hyperdrive.

colin1 wrote:

Several reasons, although they're all quite specific to me.

1. The weather. I shit you not, Montreal had 5 months of snow (going as low as -40C) and 5 months of disgustingly humid mosquito-infested heat. You get 1 civilised month in spring and one in autumn.
2. Salary. In my field I earn 3 times as much here doing the same job. Sure the cost of living there is lower but not enough to make up for that.

Those are the main ones, but there were other irritations like language (not a problem if you don't live in Quebec I admit), lack of history (I don't expect most people to be bothered by this but for me it made the place feel soulless), anti-bike legislation, seriously shit TV (OK so this probably isn't as bad in the US - but Canadian TV was pitiful) and the generally humourless po-faced old women that are Canadians.
