I am 6ft 6 and recently went out determined to buy a set of leathers for about £600 that would allow me to go no trackdays. I could not find any leathers that fitted to I bought a rukka armax jacket and trousers (https://www.rukkasuperstore.com/Rukka-Arma-S-Jacket-Black_ARITT~paddingWidth~1~paddingColor~black.aspx) and was ensured these would be suitable for track days. I then contacted focus events to get on a track days and they told me that only leathers are accepted. I have a few questions and need some advice:
1. Why would I not be able to go on a track day with textile protection of this standard
2. are there any trackday organisers that will allow me to go on one with this protection
3. If I HAVE to buy leathers then where the heck can I get some some that will fit my tall and slim build?

Many thanks in advance.

Not as safe as leathers.(The armour can move around in them as they aren't as tight fitting. I understand abrasion resistance is getting there though) In that jacket only the armour's CE approved, although this is similar to many sets of leathers these days.

No.

How much money have you got? Cheap option is get second hand leathers off ebay that are too big for you, and get them altered to fit. The more pricey option is full on made to measure.

I think you were done over by the salesman by the way. Everyone knows it's one piece leathers or zip together two piece at least 180 degrees around on trackdays.

Andy,

I am 6 foot 5", so only a little shorter than you, I found loads of leathers that fit, ranging from the top end of the market 'Diannese' (around £600) to the cheaper side 'Frank Thomas' leathers(around £250). I found the Frank Thomas good enough, but the Dianese fitted very nicely too.

You just got to got to a shop and try some leathers on. You might be best getting a 2 piece leather set rather than the one piece as I did, both good for track days. But the one piece must zip up the majority of the way round....like 70% the way round and not using the little zip that most have at the back.

Like Big_Ham said, you have been fed wrong info regards the textiles. Ask yourself this, have you ever seen a motorbike racer in textiles?

In that case you should return the textiles to the shop and get a refund because you need leathers to do track days.

For finding leathers that fit you, go to some big shops like J&S or Hein Gericke and try on various different leathers until you find some that fit. Alternatively like big ham, you could have some custom made or you could buy some leathers that are close to fitting you (second hand from ebay or new from a shop) and then have them altered to fit you exactly.

You could get a set of custom made leathers for the price of that jacket. Laughing

I found a two piece Fieldsheer suit at a silly discount ('last year's colours' apparently) 15+ years ago at a shop *somewhere* in MK. The only part the zip didn't go round was a few inches at the front. Full removeable armour and it was in fairly sensible colours - red / black with some white piping. When it was new I did get shouts of 'spiderman' but road dirt (courier at the time - 176,000 mile ZZR600 - see other threads) soon dulled that down to below 'power ranger' levels. It still fits as long as I don't eat any more pies... Rolling Eyes
Bike shows *might* have some deals going, and your shape means if you do find something that fits you might be able to haggle as they are unlikely to find many other people of your mutant shape Laughing

Oh - and like Ste says - refund - miss-sold goods, not 'fit for purpose' etc
