...do I need to declare this when applying for my own policy?

On ebike they say "have you had an accident or loss on YOUR policy" in the last five years" which I can safely say "nope I have not"

Others just say "Have you had an accident or loss in the last 5 years"

Which is more ambiguous. It is quite annoying as I have no idea of what it cost nor the real date of the incident (it was about a year ago and they were fairly minor incidents). I could find out from the lease company im sure, but they're a bloody nightmare at the best of times.

Check for a little " Question " button near the question for clarification, but assuming there isn't one,

I would say no you have not claimed on your insurance, to ebike.

to the other insurers I would say you have had an accident so I would put yes.

Got no legal or official backing behind my answers so don't take them as gospel, it's just what I would do Thumbs Up

Well I just got absolutely reamed!

<rant>
Company Car lease company would not release the details of the claims I made due to the data protection act. I could request it in writing if I wrote to the information manager or something and paid a fee but they said it would take 7 to 21 days to return the query.

FFS.

So I called bennetts who had the most promising quote.

"I had 2 minor bodywork repairs done on 2 seperate company cars over a year ago but I don't know what that cost the insurance company."

"Sorry sir but in the case of not knowing we have to put the full write off value of the car in there"

"Er im still driving the one car"

"Sorry sir they are the rules."

"But it was a paint job on one and a new front bumper on the other"

"How old are the cars sir perhaps its not as bad"

"They're lease cars, the one is brand new from the factory the other was less than 3 years old".

"Oh".

--------------------------

So I move onwards through the numbers same story given although it varies between "We cannot quote you in that case sir" to "we put the full write off value in there"

I get to CIA insurance *Yamaha's own jobbo* and explain, guy on end of phone seems understanding and I hear him typing like a nutter as I explain both the situation of both accidents (One was due to ice, the other was due to me being and idiot and scraping the bodywork against a stone wall) and what I know the repairers did.

Quote: £851.55

Okay so im thinking thats not too bad I've sort of seen quotes surfing around the 500 - 700 mark so I guess thats okay.

The real BOHICA moment came when he revealed that its a 300 pound voluntary excess on that policy keeping it from being £1001.50!

Total Excess on the Policy: £700.

Bloody hell - two tiny mistakes (1 in "oh god its the end of the world" weather) that on my own insurance I'd have never have claimed but rather sorted myself! When I started driving for the very first time has shafted me good and proper, regardless of the fact I've done 35,000+ miles since the last one, all accident free.

Which just takes the biscuit as my sister in her cage has done 10,000 miles in the 2 years she's been driving and is insured on her 1.8ltr Astra VXR for £350 fully comp.

Gargh!

</rant>

Settled with the CIA policy for now as I was rapidly running out of numbers to call but put the DPA request into my lease company. Hoping they get back to me before the cooling off period ends on the insurance and I can cancel the policy and apply elsewhere.

That sucks! I'm guessing this is the insurance for the divvy? Should have waited until Friday to do it to give the lease company a bit of extra time to get back to you, personally I probably wouldn't have called and just ticked the "no" box for "have you had any claims on your policy" online and be done with it, not sure what would happen in the case of an accident if they found out about those claims but at least in my mind I would be alright Laughing

Bikesure... I LOVE YOU! Smile Wub

You've taken a policy costing me £851 and made it £535. You absolute beauty.

God damn I love you! Very Happy

Now to cancel my crap CIA policy and do the insurance hokey-cokey before saturday comes.

Finally someone allowing themselves to see sense. Not taking the bloody write off value of a car I am still bloody driving for a replacement bumper.

Woo!!!! Instead they took an "estimated value of repair".
