Anyone know (roughly) how loud a scooter is at 30mph, in decibels? (it's a 2-stroke if anyone has information that specific Wink )

Have seen some helpful graphs showing motorcycle speed vs db in the past, but i can't remember where.

Are there too many variables to answer this question correctly?

And that's why i said "roughly". Because it's abudently obvious that an exact answer to my question is going to be unlikely.

But it's OK, i've found the graph i was speaking of once again. And promptly forgot to bookmark it again for future reference Brick Wall

About 80-85db (although that was for big bikes), so i'd expect less if anything. Which is good.

Remember that decibels is not a linear scale, so 160db is most definitely NOT twice as loud of 80 Wink

All those volume measures all depend on the revs, exhaust and position of the bike relative to you. E.g standard exhaust, high gearing, no throttle 4 stroke coming towards you could be as low as 20db.
Race exhaust on a 2 stroke riding away from you with full throttle and short gearing can be ear splitting. I once followed a 2 stroke moped that made my ears hurt and i was in a car 30m behind it Shocked

Also at what distance are you measuring the loudness as every time you double the distance from a point source, you lose 6dB of sound pressure level. Thumbs Up

Will vary massively, ignoring the fact you haven't mentioned distance, 'scooter' covers a wide range of options - some may be quite quiet at 30mph (for instance a stock 180cc that's geared quite high) while another may be pretty loud - for instance a 50cc with a loud exhaust, still geared for 30mph.

Very loud if its a two stroke, gets pedestrians moving if there trying to cross infront of you!
