Our household has 2 cars, 3 bikes and a spare set of wets which need to be kept topped up or inflated quite often. Using a double footpump takes forever when a few tyres need inflating and I'm forever braking the pumps. I figured it might be cheaper to get an air compressor or tyre inflator to make the job easier.

I do have a 12v tyre inflator which I "acquired" from a previous company car but it takes an absolute age to even just top up a tyre, let alone inflate one. I've been looking at mains powered ones such as this on the basis that mains powered ones might be more powerful but haven't found any reviews. Small air compressors are another option but even the small ones seem to be expensive.

I have a max budget of £70, opinions? I don't intend to do sand blasting or anything.

I like the halfords 12v one I've got as you can set the desired pressure and it'll stop automatically - so taking some time is less of an issue.

A cheap general air compressor will be quick when the tank is full, but loud and noisy when it's not.

My woman's dad has a michelin jobby that works really well.

This one:

I generally just use a foot pump though.

With my 12V cheapo inflator it takes 5 minutes to inflate a flat car tyre.

+1 on any of the michellin high power inflators. I'd really like a Ring heavy duty but they cost way too much. 12v is a lot more practical if all your planning is blowing up tyres.

FWIW, the compressors that are sold by Aldi are perfect for home use and generally cost around £70. Very noisy though.

aldi had a tyre compressor based on a cordless drill the other week

much better than messing about with wires from cigarett lighter socket in my opinion

I think it was about £30, there must be similar available on the web

I've no idea how quick it would be.

Get yourself a proper air compressor, it's useful for a plethora of tasks.

Set up the hoses with some kind of semi-permanent round-the-garage setup where you always have the tire pump thing available and spare plugs for plugging in other tools.

They're not too expensive and useful for cleaning things, sandblasting, pumping tires, dusting the floor, removing stiff nuts, blowing up baloons, etc.

I saw them a week ago but they are part of the classic Argos 'bargains', try finding one, anywhere.
