It's carnage how easy it is.. bike alarms should put off the vast majority though, need to invest in one.

Yup. My SRAD was nicked, huge gouge in the headstock where the lock was forced.

Alarms are really, really annoying. Don't get one, get a fuck off lock instead.

I honestly think the manufacturers should've been legislated against years ago regarding this as it's quite obviously ridiculous. That particular steering lock is clearly not fit for purpose, especially as all it required was pressure from a normal man's foot!

Manufacturers profit from bike thefts (extra new motorcycle sales and replacement parts for damage caused by thieves), and i know that some have began to make some efforts (e.g. Honda HISS), but to be frank it all smacks of doing the bare minimum.

this thread reminded me of this post

Scarbrough is bad for bike thefts. Mind you, they have some idiot thieves there too. A mate of mine came out of a hotel in Scarbrough to find his VFR 200 yds up the road from where he left it having been dropped, with a broken steering lock and with the tank and fairing covered in blood.

The coppers came along and got forensics to examine the bike while they went to casualty to find someone with a mashed hand. Found him later that day getting stitched up.

He denied all knowledge but the police thought that his fingerprints all over the bike in his own blood made for some pretty compelling evidence.

Turns out he'd been trying to reach under the fairing to pull out the ignition wiring (a bit pointless on a HISS equipped bike) while his mate booted one of the bars to break the steering lock. When the lock went, it mashed three fingers between the yoke and the frame.

The part two of that video really annoys me, the way he casually comes back later and just wheels it away as if he owned it.

All the steering lock does it stops you mates moving your bike. It's probably a condition of you bike insurance that it's used though. Thinking
