Hi
going out to the Grossglockner in May next year we want to split the journey out there and do B&B or Hotel about half way , in Germany . Has any one done this , or can any one recommend a good place to stopover .
There will be about 30 bikes in the group !!!!

Just did it a couple of weeks ago but we did a few other passes on the way, Umbrail, Stelvio, Jaufenpass and others, passing through Switzerland and the top of Italy. About 2500 miles in 7 days was a bit much really, needed a couple of "easy" days.

Around Grossglockner we stopped at Hotel Hubertshof in Kaprun. Very nice and reasonable rates but I don't know if you will still be in skiing season in May, so prices may be higher? Lots of nice bars and restaurants in Kaprun.

Hotel Gasthof zur Post in Birnbaum was also very good. More rural but real Austrian food and culture.

On the way there and back we stopped at a few nice hotels but also some cheap motels. Premier Classe are plentiful and cheap but are often located on industrial estates just off motorways or main roads so not much to see. Useful for the blast through France though when you are just mile munching.
