I had them, have them infact. Got heavy use and stuck up to it. Awesome boot, not much shin protection but solid in other aspects. I wore through the sole, used them so much. Should be buying some more this or next year. |

I'll be replacing my old Nitro boots which were pretty good for £65.
I saw the Sidi's next to the 'big' sidis and they look pretty good. 'Big' Sidi's had a big price tag
Might try these on ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I've got Frank Thomas Fury boots, I paid around £90 for them and they are full size/comfy. I was wearing them at college everyday and didn't notice them all that much . ____________________ Current Bike - 2013 Triumph Daytona 675R |

Has anyone crashed in them? When I've crashed wearing trainers one thing I noticed was my ankle being bent at a reasonable angle.
I'd prefer to go for Army boots over these - but then I think bike boots generally look a bit silly (not that it bothers me - have walked around various cities in jeans a tshirt and large white motocross boots.) |

Id agree with Tommy on this that they look a bit ridiculous. Get some 'proper' boots, they offer better protection and you will look less 'special'.

I own the X-Cubes and the streetburners.
The burners are pretty decent boots, i can't ride in motorcycle boots to save my life.
THe x-cubes are a pile of wank(i have to wear them for work)
And wouldn't protect you from impact, let alone a bug impact.
In fact my street burners take so much abuse on the mini moto track....

Hmm, I'm not sure about those.
Clearly as stated they won't be comfy (and will look silly) walking around Asda in. So you aren't going to wear them to the pub.
I'm not sure what kind of trousers you'd need to wear them with, they aren't going to integrate with leathers or many types of bikers trousers, so the weatherproofing is questionable (jeans or similar will ride up and let water in).
So if you're only going to wear them when doing a 'proper' ride and you want full protection, you might as well be wearing normal (taller) boots.
Personally I wear a pair of steel toe capped suede effect workman type boots for casual riding, and stick on a pair of conventional Sidi's if I'm going out for fun and don't intend on socialising. I think this is the best combination. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |

That's the thing, though; it's quite possible your ankle would have been knackered in these half-boots. The rest of the boot in this case may have kept your ankle straight, where a half-boot would have allowed it to bend.
I did fairly badly mash my ankle (well, lower leg) in Vertigos; but I had my full weight landing on it, at some speed and from a decent height.
A motocross boot (they are very stiff) might have stopped the break there, but no doubt would have caused a break further up my leg when the boot ended.
No pictures of mine, but apparently the bone was sticking out of the leg . |
I totally agree with you G , would have been worse ,but according to witnesses i landed flat on my side. The only boot i know of that may protect your leg from bending are the puma 1000 boots which have been designed to stop the boot from exceeding a certain range of motion in all 4 directions (front ,back and from side to side) but again may cause a break further up like you said , but i would have thought they wouldnt be as rigid as motocross boots.
To answer the op's question All in all a decent pair of proper boots will provide better protection than the sidi streetburners that your after, but its up to you as its your money. Il be purchasing the puma 1000's next as ive grown quite fond of my legs and wish to keep them but thats just my ____________________ We Live In A Society Where Your Pizza Gets To Your House Before The Police Do.

If you'd like to see how stiff they can be - try riding a proper (ie tiny) minimoto with trainers, then try with decent race books - you'll notice the race boots actually offer rather a lot of resistance to bending .
I can riding minimoto with oldish army boots, but fresh ones tends to be a bit too much of a struggle to get in to the right position. |
