Best to buy one with an aftermarket Motad which is a stainless system, will save a lot of money when the original goes (prob more than the value of the bike!) The reg/rectifier went on mine so check its charging okay running with the lights on. The clutch rattle apparently is related to the fixing for the oil pump drive behind the clutch which wears, it sounds disturbing but mine had it for 20,000 miles and it never got worse nor caused any trouble. It can be resolved apparently but its not a major problem just sounds like the bike is going to die!
Check swingarm welds, mine cracked and needed a new swingarm. Also rear brake binds a lot wearing out pads, worth checking how free the discs are.
The bike doesn't like wet weather very much, coils are very exposed and it can cut out and leave you stranded as mine did until I replaced them. Still some problems misfiring in rain but much better.
I got rid of mine and bought the 900, the 600 had a lot of problems in the time I had it but the 900 version hasn't let me down once in 30,000 miles so far. If you can afford the 900 I'd go for that, the 600 is a very cheap hack but in my experience can be a lot of trouble too.
The GPZ500 I had earlier was better, much quicker than the 600 diversion and far more reliable. You can get one of those for similar money.
I think the 900 is far superior in terms of build quality and overall reliability plus the shaft makes it very easy to live with. You can get one for just under a grand quite easily.
